I agree with most of what you said, but don't think mobley is simply a 'filler'...a 'filler' is pike or adrian griffin.

that's where the orlando magic don't do anything right ever since Penny was drafted. After that...it's been a crapshoot for them.

Orlando should take the Sun's deal and run. Orlando and the Suns should have real high picks you should have a nice nucleus of JJ and two high picks as long as you pick right.

i doubt that a team of howard/gooden/jj/okafur/lue would do much damage in the east. I have my doubts about Okafur. His D looks good but what about everything else? IMHO, the only reason he's going number 1 is because he's a proven product and teams nowadays needs a proven product rather than hs kids that they have to teach and cultivate.

And it also doesn't help T-mac to move and play with Amare and a gutted Phoenix team.

Peja was 4th in MVP voting --- clearly not a superstar.

The only thing that everyone is forgetting is that it doesn't matter what team can offer the best package. The Magic have to be willing to trade TMac there and TMac has to be willing to re-sign there. You can likely eliminate all East teams due to the principle that you trade star players out of your conference. And you can eliminate the lotto teams with no big time frontcourt stars. In the end, it comes down to Phoenix and Houston. Does T-Mac want to play with Yao or Amare?

    1. Yeah, but plans change, particularly when offered one of the top players in the game. Would the " They've decided to build around Zach" argument hold if they were offered Garnett? Duncan? Yao?

Didn't think so, and it wouldn't hold here.

    2. Agreed.

    3. On what planet? Miller and SF are close, though I give a defnite edge to Steve, but Nene and Cato aren't even in the same galaxy. Tell you waht; if we were offered Andre Miller and Nene for Steve and Cato, we'd take it in a second.

    4. Agreed...so? Superior talent is superior talent; they could then trade Jefferson or something for a decent middle option.

    5. But is that an option? And how do you know this to be true?

    6. So? How does that alter the fact that they make this trade, or that it's better than ours?

    7. Houston got to the playoffs without McGrady...so why do this? Non-argument.

    8. How do you know this?

On the contrary, some of these trade are too generous. Some teams would actually be worse off with McGrady than the package they'd send out, most notably Portland, LA (though I do understand that Bryant is a flight-risk), Memphis, and Sacramento.

This is probably the most (sorry, I have to use the word) sane trade out there.

Although I don't know. Maybe just better to keep Harrington, if that part of the equation would be worked out.

If Steve and Harrington would get us T-Mac, though, I would hope Les would bother to go over the luxury tax to sign some other players (Brent Barry, maybe). We would certainly have the revenue to finally do so.

Uhh.. name me a team in the west that has a better starting guard tandem then ours? I bet you your pick is The Fakers? Payton is old and washed up.. hell he even splits time with Flopmaster Fisher.

So being voted 4th in the MVP voting clearly makes you a star?

Kobe by himself is better than our two guards. If you had a choice of a Francis/Mobley backcourt or a Kobe/minimum salary PG backcourt, you'd go with the latter.

As for other better back courts, Bibby/Christie/Jackson, Nash/Finley/Daniels, Parker/Turgolu/Ginobili(perhaps only slightly). And I won't say it's a stretch to think that the Sonics(Allen/Barry) the Wolves(Cassell/guy who doesn't matter), or the Grizs(Williams/Miller) being better combos.

it's hard to NOT trade randolph for KG or DUncan or Yao i'll agree with that..but wait...aren't they big men? and last i checked...McGrady didn't man the 4 or 5 spot. all i'm saying is that Portland should know that if they want to compete in the West they wouldn't trade TWO bigs AND and a draft pick for McGrady. If it was simply Randolph for Mcgrady then sure no contest. or even Randolph and the draft pick.

    3. On what planet? Miller and SF are close, though I give a defnite edge to Steve, but Nene and Cato aren't even in the same galaxy. Tell you waht; if we were offered Andre Miller and Nene for Steve and Cato, we'd take it in a second.

From a marketing standpoint, where would this help Orlando? When you lose a marque name like Tracy McGrady would hope trade for a player that is just as marketable or just as 'exciting'. And lets not forget this is the Eastern conference, where the likes of 'exciting players' like Baron Davis and Allen Iverson can will their teams into the playoffs. And Nene? Granted he's good but he's not a center. And they have Gooden and Howard 'manning' the 4 slot as it is.

    4. Agreed...so? Superior talent is superior talent; they could then trade Jefferson or something for a decent middle option.

Then they would basically mortgage more of their future just for Mcgrady. Lets think of it this way:

-Nets would lose Martin, an all star in the East..one of the best PFs in the east.
-Then they COULD trade RJ for a big. That sounds good..but wait...the nets' offense is based solely on fast break executions...ok fine whatever. they get their center and change the way they play.

basically they are better without Mcgrady right now than they are with him...so why trade for him?

    5. But is that an option? And how do you know this to be true?

i don't but how do you know Mcgrady is an option? This is all speculation. And I am pretty sure West is going to trade for Kobe sans legal troubles than a Mcgrady with injury 'issues'. Why? Well when both are said to be available...who would you rather go for? Exactly.

    6. So? How does that alter the fact that they make this trade, or that it's better than ours?

I'm sorry but i fail to recognize trading away the #2 scorer (behind mcgrady no doubt) who is also a career 46% FG and a 40% 3pt shooter PLUS a perennial 6th man candidate (who, by the way, the kings sorely need right now) AND 'more' as something the Kings would do. McGrady might be a great great talent, but he doesn't offset the things Peja (reliable shooting) and Bobby Jackson (a good player coming off the bench) DOES FOR THE KINGS. Webber should be expendable...example? The Kings' regular season before Webber suited up again. Brad Miller more than filled his spot. And the Kings also have other matters to tend to...like the inevitable retirement of Divac.

    7. Houston got to the playoffs without McGrady...so why do this? Non-argument.
The proposal is trading Odom and Butler...two BIG pillars of their team. The proposal is trading Francis and Cato...i wouldn't call Cato a BIG pillar. AND this heat team got to the playoffs with a rook at PG, a 2nd year player at forward and a new acquisition as their main man. it's safe to say there should be potential to improve. rockets, on the other hand, has their own 'potential issues'. i hope i don't need to go any further with it.

    8. How do you know this?

if you were the orlando magic, what would YOU do? simply say 'ok we'll take joe johnson, lampe, and your pick' without asking for marion or amare first? not only do you look foolish for not doing that, but then you look at their team that would consist of marion, amare, AND mcgrady....if you were the magic GM you might as well pull your pants down and wait for penetration.

what i said or analyzed is what i think..hence it's my opinion. i'm definitely not saying i'm right. i've seen some crazy stuff happen in the NBA in regards to trades but i'm tryin to see both sides of the story as well...like how would the magic benefit and how would _____ benefit.

I agree. EVen Dallas' deal is too generous. I don't think McGrady is worth that much, especially when everybody knows you have to trade him.

to some respects, yes...it also helps to be

2nd in the league in scoring.
2nd in the league in total points.
    1st in FT% (92.7%)
    48% from the field
    43% from 3pt land

all while playing 40+ Minutes for an elite western conference team...

think where the rockets would be if SF was 4th in the MVP voting...they at least still be playing.

but hey, your superstar did lead the league in technical fouls...

The Magic will want to make a splash. They will need a big name in return for TM, and it's easy to assume they will try to angle for three things.

    1. young star in return
    2. first round draft pick
    3. dumping grant hill's contract

I'm not sure they can get all three, but they can definitely get two of the three.

As great as TM is, giving up your inside game to get him isn't worth it. Especially in the West.

But could Portland offer ZR and change, and resign SAR?

I would do the Francis and Cato for T-Mac and Hill under two provisos: 1) we could negotiate a buyout of Hill's contract at a pre-determined price and 2) they throw in Reece Gaines.

Gaines was a bust last year but didn't have a solid PG instructor (as in JVG). Also, he is unhappy and wants to make the move. And last, Gaines is potentially the young, tall, talented PG with passing, scoring and defensive abilities we need.
