Solid year. Some feel we are closer than others. I don't think we are a tier 1 team but I do think we are right below that. With plenty of meat on the bone. If you could blackmail Tilman into doing anything you wanted with the team, what would you do to field what you think would be a team that could go the distance over the next 3 years? Predicated on Suns pick being #9. FVV- 4 year 80 million deal. Team option for year 3 with a 10 million dollar buyout. With the understanding that he might not continue to start. Adams- Whatever it takes within reason, bring back. Holiday- Honestly was decent this year and is a fine 5th guard. Trade Brooks+Landale+Whitmore+Jalen Green+#9 for Durant. Extend Durant and hope that he stays healthy. Allen adds more shooting. Sengun/Adams Smith/3 and D specialist Durant/Eason FVV/Allen/Holiday Amen/Reed
Do not bring FVV back. We need to play faster, with pace. Let Reed, Green, etc develop. It's time to move on. I see all teams penetrative and quick out for easy shots. FVV can't do that anymore.
Trade Brooks+Landale+Whitmore+Jalen Green+#9 for Durant. Extend Durant Wow , Suns fan in disguise? That's crazy overpay for a 37-38 year Durant , suns will probably just take the 9 and like brooks or fvv and cam honestly
I do think Cam/#9/Brooks/Landale could land Durant. I don’t like the age, but I think that he is an underrated defender because of his length and just the shot making would do so much for us.
No to KD, he's almost done (and his defense already is done). I think I would go after a young guard who has shown upside. I posted the following list in another thread: Out of those guys I think I personally like the idea of a Quentin Grimes sign-and-trade the most if I were to choose; a number of them make sense though. Mostly, I think there are big question marks about whether a lot of these guys would be available, but I think Grimes could be pried away for the right package--I doubt Morey wants to pay him what the market will command given the other problems he's dealing with, and given their guard/wing depth. I think he'll try to trade him and sell high and pick up assets--it's his MO in these situations. I don't personally think this team should be trying to go out and get a superstar externally. Obviously you do your due diligence and offer what you think makes sense for anybody who becomes available but I don't think a deal is going to emerge that truly makes sense. At least not this offseason. And I also believe Amen will become a #1 option within the next 2-3 years if we give him the chance to run the offense. I also think this team is already really, really good when we get good play from our backcourt. 3 through 5 we're very strong. We just need like a consistent 20ish efficient points from one of our guards and we can already beat anybody. Do I think we become strong capital C Contenders just by adding a consistently good shooting guard like Grimes, Bane, Reaves, Herro, etc? No, but I think we're fringe contenders after another year or two of development--sooner if Amen develops as fast as I halfway expect him to.
For those who’ve forgotten… Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen. Gotta be real careful throwing away the future for the past.
I also expect a man to be a top 10 player in the league. I just think that as far as his offensive output it might take more than a year or even two. so I think we need to do something to bridge the gap. Could be Durant but I also like the list of young guards. I like Grimes but I think we need more offense than just that.
That is a massive overpay for Durant, just because the Suns overpaid does not mean another team will do the same. KD's value is what Miami got for Jimmy. They only got one draft pick and it was top 10 protected. Dillon Brooks is a glue guy for this team, just like he was in Memphis, throwing him into trades with Jalen and Cam plus a top 10 pick is an overpay.
I just think KD will cost too much. If the cost was just going to be 1 draft pick then sure. I just feel like if it's going to be multiple draft picks, those assets could be better used on something more than a 1-2 year stopgap
Stone cannot continue the mindset where opportunties to improve the team, even on the margins, are ignored during the season. Between all in and doing nothing at all, there is surely compromise. The Rockets having another remotely dependable scoring option from the outside means they would have probably beaten the Warriors. We don't need a star, per se, just someone that can get buckets. There is no doubt in my mind that they could compete with the other remaining teams this year in such a circumstance.
It makes me upset that Stone took this year for granted. The west was wide open this year and the Rockets being the #2 seed had home court throughout except against the Thunder. All the Rockets needed was to get an average shooter at the deadline and we would still be playing right now and BEATING the Wolves. You can’t assume next year will be the same because of teams getting better and injuries that may happen. Stone not taking advantage of a good year the Rockets were having was a major fail.
What I’m saying all the time. That was the thing I liked about Morey - you could always trust him that he would make small but important moves near the deadline. At least until the last 3-4 seasons with him, when he went downhill and I’m glad he’s not in our management anymore..
