Open carry gun law making its way through Texas legislature

    Exactly, just the fact that people are more afraid of open carry than concealed carry is just baffling to me.

    If you really think people that carry everyday are the reincarnation of Hitler, wouldn't you like to have eyes on my weapon(s) instead of having to guess where I carry it?

    So if they have less knowledge of who is armed (if it's concealed), that's better?

    Out of sight, out of mind. I've grown up around people carrying sidearms as my dad is a retired immigration officer. I am not uncomfortable at all around guns, but I don't want to live my life in condition orange. Condition yellow is just fine with me.

    Can't wait for the first person who gets refused service and then cries that MUH FREEDUMS were infringed upon, as if the gun were their skin color or gender.

    Well my issue has never been grandmothers, grandchildren, kids whatever being nervous. What I understand from that is the concept of "you're afraid of what you don't understand", so understand it, & get educated. Take your kid to a proper range, let them grow up with the mentality that guns aren't the devil & that they are tools that need to be respected.

    My issue with open carrying a rifle into a establishment is the necessity for it. Now, I've always been a large advocate for "in america there's no requirement to show "need" to exercise a right" thing but I do understand that there are grey areas & that exercising your right in that way is just over the top.

    Considering that both the guns you named can be short barrel & assuming your point for the hypothetical was for them to be big handguns... I don't know why anyone would carry a desert eagle... Just for the mere fact that it's uncomfortable & immobile as ****. However if the situation were to arise, an educated person would know that that guy is no more of a threat than a guy ankle carrying a .380.

    Let me just say this in general, there's a huge wormhole in the gun debate. There's people that are educated on guns & people that are not. For your opinion to hold any validity, you have to know what the **** you're talking about. If I hear two guys debating about who's a better golfer, Tiger or Phil, guess what, I'm going to keep my mouth shut on the subject, why? Because I don't know jack **** about golf. Unless you were born with a gun in your hand like Clint Eastwood, at one point in your life, you were ignorant about guns. Whether you choose to get educated on them is your choice, safety is number one, then understand the mechanics, from there you understand fire rate, white kind of rounds there are, calibers, different levers, etc etc. The previous point does not work vice versa, I've never in my heard any gun educated person geuninely say "I just don't understand why we need guns". Doesn't work like that.

    It is rather interesting that in the relatively recent development of the modern 'nation-state', the United States is an unique case study for a strong modern state where there is still a mass circulation of firearms amongst the civilian populace. The only other states that have similar circulations have either a weak state or a conscription of military service for all young adults.

    i would think so. if someone walked into a public area and wanted to start killing people who do you think they would take out first? ...the person advertising that they have a gun, of course.

    The issue isn't the firearm itself but rather the intent of the individual carrying. The human condition has changed in the past 300 years. With the rise of the modern state, society has conceded that the state shall have the monopoly on violence. Even in the U.S. where this notion is challenged the most compared to other strong developed states, most of the civilian populace accepts this monopoly on violence and when an individual outside the state is carrying a tool of violence, the populace innately fears the worst outcome, that this particular individual's intent is not benevolent or neutral but rather malicious.

    Unfortunately this is very close to reality. Most individuals I know who advocate open carry and who do it, do it out of hobby rather than necessity.

    90% of gun right activists advocate what they advocate not based out of some altruistic "human rights" issue, but rather a love of firearms. It's a hobby to them. Majority of them have never been robbed, raped, attacked, mugged etc. Majority of them never fear these events occurring to them. They just love guns. Plain and simple.

    Didn't FEMA give the executive order to the president to be able to take guns from citizens during a state of emergency anyway... So if that's the case you only have the right to bear arms as long as the government says you can.
