Wait a minute. You traded Karp away and now you got him back?? Just like Denny Bautista, right? Is Rafael Soriano next?? I have never seen anyone who is addicted to trading like you, deve & you trade these great prospects away then you always, lol, get them back while they are still in A or AA. What would you give me for a ragged 1979 baseball card of Sandy Alomar, Sr? Would you give me Bautista, since you are *always* in a trading mood?? Do you ever listen to anyone's advice about this sim?? BTW - you still need to fix your line-up...you CAN'T bat 9 position players in the NL!
Manny makes a good point, and I will chime in. I have made approximately ten or so trades with devestata in the month or longer he's been here, and I every single time deve asks to trade for the players he traded the very next day. I talked to him about this the other night, and he basically admitted to being paranoid because of the first few trades he made (Beckett, Penny, etc.). Deve: there's nothing wrong with wanting to be more careful. But you MUST rely on an advisor at this point. I don't care whether it's myself, Puedlfor, or whomever. You've totally lost grasp of reality when it comes to your own players. We've done this sim for about 17 seasons. Trust us, we know what we are doing. Some people will take advantage of you. But, there are a number of us, including myself, that do NOT believe in ripoff deals, and can really help you. I can do that, and I'm sure several others, such as Puedlfor, Castor, etc. would be willing to help. Perfect example the other night: Luis Garcia. Garcia is A-G-G, with virtually no defense, speed, or anything. Deve gets Torii Hunter and Cory Lidle for him. Hunter is A-G-F. Hunter is worse in walks, but has absolutely fabulous defense at the most difficult position defensive in the majors. Furthermore, Garcia has terrible defense, and plays 1B, a spot that deve has about 50 players at. The trade makes perfect sense for deve, as Hunter still has power and can erase many of the defensive shortcomings of the rest of his team. Plus, Lidle is at least an average pitcher, better than much of his staff last year. Two hours later: trade Luis back, Hunter sucks... Some other examples: After trading Joe Mays in the Soriano deal... "Joe Mays isn't as good as the 9th pick in the draft" (career 3.3 ERA pitcher with A duration, 11 CG per season) "Denham is better than Bautista" 20 year old G-A-G-G with D duration vs. 21 year old G-G-A-B with B duration... right. "3.63 ERA sucks" "Soriano is the second best pitcher in the game"... maybe when some pitchers like Beckett, Pedro, and Oswalt don't exist. After every trade, his excuse is "LOOK AT MY PITCHING STAFF". Well, he acknowledges that this is because of Beckett and Penny, and even uses this excuse for players like Garcia that have nothing to do with pitching. This is the most confusing thing that I've ever seen. Apparently, deve knows that you need to trade to be successful, but because of the first few trades where he was raped, he overestimates his own players value, so it's just a constant cycle of his original players. Deve: do you not think other people were ripped off when they first entered the league? Do you see anyone else constantly trading for their own players? Almost every one of us still asks for advice on trades, even from the rest. You were getting better at this, until in the last week or so you seem to have decided that you know more than everyone else who has done this for seasons and seasons. When everyone tells you that a trade is fair, and that you aren't getting raped, you really need to step back and think about it. It is NOT reflective of you as a GM. There isn't a one of us who in one season could be better than others after about 17. We have experience, and most people are nice enough to share it with you. I do not and will not propose lopsided trades, and I will definitely tell you if a trade you make with someone else is. To be totally honest, I can't remember the last time you were "raped" in a trade. You have really been getting better. Mike Jackson Jr. (in the draft) is every bit as talented as Soriano. Just tell yourself that you screwed up to start the sim, but that you have a better idea of what you are doing now. I will guarantee you one fact, though: the team you had/has is not a contender. You will NEVER, under any circumstance, win in this league unless you are willing to change. That means looking to fill weaknesses with trading, free agency, and the draft, NOT trading for the same players that you were losing with over and over again.
In response to Manny and Cat, if you are both referring to the trade I just did for number one, I thought it was a good deal. I will be taking Jackson Jr. with number one, and Karp is going to be a good starter as long as he doesn't have any decreasing, and Perez is jut average, a throw in, but yeah, I do get your points. I know my team won't contend for crap for at least 4 years (barring I don't do anymore stupid trades) and I have advisors to help me. I asked Castor about the Deleon deal, and he said it was good for me. Yeah, I know my team was better than last year with the additions of Cuddyer, Ortiz, and Hunter, but I still won't do anything yet. I'll try and come to you guys for help from now on.
