Yes, I know. I knew that someone would bring up that mistake. However, the mistake was one of editing, not grammar. I changed the wording of the sentence right before I posted it and simply forgot to delete "better" from the sentence. Now, Isable, I'll give you major props if you tell me what part of speech the word "up" is in the sentence above, teacher.
I figured it was an editing error; however, it is what it is. I just got a piece of spam email offering fake diplomas. It said I had just qualified for a Ph.D. Look, man, I already have one. It's in biochemistry, though, not English grammar. I know how to write correctly, but can't explain why. Notice that I have joined the new sensitivity movement and traded in my red pen for purple.
LOL!!! Anyway, "up" is a verb participle. It is connected to "bring" in the sentence. Anytime you can move the word and it still makes sense then suspect verb participle. As in, bring up and bring that mistake up. See? Now you can impress all your friends.
Per Mr. Brightside: "Is that new Wallace and Gromit movie any good?" do not know about the movie, but I heard one of the actors doing a voice is Helena Bonham Carter. I always thought she was very cute, but my nephew told me he heard she does not bathe regularly presenting some studio discomfort. She is cute though. Sorry for the off topic remark. Hope things work out well despite the weather.
I just woke up early and found out that my morning exam was cancelled since he professer couldn't make it on campus due to ice. One exam left today...
Drove into Austin last night, took the gf to the airport this morning. I have never, ever, EVER witnessed as much dumbf***ery on the roads. Counted 40+ wrecked cars each way this morning b/t 183/Spicewood & Bergstrom. Seriously, these people shouldn't be allowed to drive when it's sunny out.
This is a very funny thread. The roads are iced over here in Austin, and coming home from work last night there was a car facing me on the bridge at mopac and William Cannon...very scary. Be safe....and get back to studying. DD
I had a test to take, a presentation to give, a paper to turn in, and a concert to play. (How's that for parallel structure?) Not anymore.
the parking lot of my office (north austin) is covered in a sheet of ice. i saw a couple of near-disaster moments this morning. there were also many icy patches on the roads. be careful if you're on the road in this town.
Damn, the winter weather did hit as hard as predicted here. We are getting a rain/freezing rain/sleet/snow mix right now. Off to work I go.....
What a bunch of freaking sissys. It isnt that damn hard to drive in that crap. More than half our nation has to deal with it every year and in much worse conditions. I just dont understand it.
Your parallel structure is good. And it looks like you got out of a bunch of stuff. Congratulations! Even though you'll probably be making it up later anyway. As for me, my school closed for the day too. YAY! Though I'm just a TA, so I don't actually have to do nearly as much as anyone else at that school. As I was driving home last night, I saw a 7 car pileup on the overpass that is Far West at Mopac. I didn't hit any serious ice, except the stuff frozen on top of my car.
32 degrees? Pshaw.... We've been under 32 degrees here since Thanksgiving and have been having highs in the single digits. Wussess.
Damn right. There were tons of messed up cars up and down 360 on the way to work, especially around the overpasses and bridges over Bull Creek.
