Only 4 guys average 20/10 in NBA now (and Yao's improvement)

i wonder why ... if david stern wants to market and globalise the nba as an exciting brand of sports, why don't they take out zone defense ?? I think if they took out zone, you'd see more of a free flowing game, much like back in the 80s. At least more teams will be able to score in the high 90s. The average ppg scored per team nowadays are getting lower by the year and games are sometimes becoming tedious to watch.

 

zone itself shouldn't be the problem on the game not flowing... all it does is limit the star player to a degree.

--I think all the international games allow zone. Are they better than NBA? hell no. but will two good europian teams playing each other have nice flows? probably yes...

hopefully, in about 2 or 3 season, most teams in the league would learn how to deal with zone and bring the scoring back up...

 

I watched the Euroleague final four and they were able to score points despite the zone by *gasp* passing the ball to the open man and canning the 15-18 foot jumper! It will take a bit for the league to adjust but eventually, the shooters will return to the game and will become a premium, as opposed to guys that can jump to the rafters but can't put it in the bucket without dunking.

 

It's weird...you hear the phrase "defense wins championships" muttered all the time, yet everybody complains that there isn't enough offense in the league...

 

Which is a whole lot more productive than 95% of the players in this league. Iverson takes, what, 40 shots to get 20 points? Baron Davis puts up 10 threes alone (and shots a piss poor % for that amount of shots) to get his. Randolph's improvent this year has been nothing short of miraculous. Right now he is the Portland Trailblazers.

Dumb statements like these really get to me. It is one thing not to know why the NBA decided to bring back the zone defense but to make one up to fit your dissaprovement is down right dumb.

 

Actually, I was thinking the exact opposite. I think it's more of an indication that the talent disparity isn't as great as it used to be. The top players aren’t that much greater then the next tier of players and so on…

Has the NBA reach a similar level to that of the NFL in which the pool of talent is so great?
