Dating online isn't really much different from dating any other way, except you get a chance to screen them and hopefully find some common interests from the start, or avoid some things you know you don't want. After the first date, it's no different than if you met any where else. Of course you will occasionally run into liars, or people who don't look anything like their pictures, but worst case scenario you wasted an evening on one bad date. Besides these days you can usually skype or facetime before hand to avoid the looks nothing like their picture scenario. If you are looking for something long term you should be honest about yourself in your profile. List your interests and hobbies. Might as well look for someone who likes you for who you are, and shares your interests, if you are looking for something commited. If you're just looking for short term hook ups then pretty much the same techiniques you would use in person. There is no way to guarantee a reply, but you pretty much have to have recent photos at minimum and generally the more info you share about your self the more you will stand out from people who put one line answers or nothing at all.
Similar experience myself. For the most part, women on there have some serious flaw (or perceived flaw). Single moms, crazy, or the ones you hope for, just incredibly shy. I've met several girls online. Married one. Been together for nearly 6 years. Remember, you've got nothing to lose. BTW, pretty sure we met through Cupid, but also met a couple of girls through OKCupid.
Coming up on two years via okcupid. I was on it for several years with no luck. Tried match and several other sites with nothing. She messaged me, we met up the end.
I tried POF about 2-3 years ago and got very few replies. I'm technically still on it but rarely check it, maybe once a month or so.
Personally I've had the best luck in online social environments, such as chatrooms and games. One of the best girls i've hooked up with was playing COD. I've browsed OKCupid and POF but never a paid subscription for any of the others. It really depends on what you are looking for. POF seems to be for the younger crowds. OKCupid has a wide variety, and their sorting and matching is really nice. The biggest issue i've found with free sites is that many people, like myself, are just browsing and looking for premium meat. With paid sites, people are actually vested into actually meetings someone.
Tried it for a month and it felt like a full time job. It was much better just socializing with girls in real life, at least it's easier to tell which girls are actually interested in you.
If you are exceptionally good-looking or (more importantly IMO) have a great sense of humor that you can convey effectively via your profile and messages, then you will probably do well with online dating. Otherwise your experiences will probably mirror most other men (under the age of 35) who have tried it...i.e. get 1 or 2 responses for every 50 to 100 messages sent to women. Attractive women on these sites often get a LOT of messages from men. Upwards of several dozen a day. Either they get overwhelmed, or they love the attention and decide to get super picky and hold out for "Mr. Perfect". While it depends on where you live, your age and the age of the women you're looking for...it generally holds true that men outnumber women on dating sites, sometimes significantly so (2:1, 3:1, or more). Many profiles are fake and some people on these sites are there strictly for fun and/or attention...they're not interested in actually meeting anybody. I think the "average Joe" type person will have much more success just putting himself out there, being social and meeting women out in the real world. If he wants, he can also do online dating as a supplement...after all it's just another option, another avenue.
lmao. I can only imagine 80% of the people on that site are dudes. After that there's gotta be like 15% hideous women and then 5% somewhat doable women. Either that or its full of prostitutes.
Online dating does work though. My uncle met his wife through one of them. If your referring to Adult friend finder, this is the first time i heard of someone using it. Ive seen the ads a bunch of times though...
