I don't know...I think there were many games where we won despite Artest and his lack of bball IQ, and his unwillingness to get Yao the ball or play within the offense.

I think after the Tmac trade, we had to have some sort of offensive threat besides Yao, Scola, and Brooks, even though that option was a headcase on and off the court.

I think we would've beaten Portland without Artest...

Game 2, he takes 20 shots while Yao gets 6 shots and Scola only gets 10...AB also goes 9/12, yet Artest gets 20 shots making 8...doesn't equate toa win, also gives up 42 points along with Battier to Roy.

We won game 3 despite him going 3/8 for 9 points, with 4 assists and 4 turnovers, and only 2 freet throw attempts and only 5 rebounds.

We won game 4 despite him going 5/20:eek: from the feild for 12 points, 1/5 3pt, 1/3 ft, and only 3 rebounds. However he did have 9 assists to only 3 turnovers, so he gets some slack, but 5/20 in a playoff game!!??

He shouldn't get more shots than Yao or Scola, IMO.

In Game 5, he goes 3/9 for 10 points with only 2 ft attempts, only 4 rebounds, and 5 assists but 4 turnovers

He had 2 good games in the series...both of which were blowouts with others stepping up for Houston and Brandon Roy getting no help in Game 1 and 6.

I think we would've done okay without a sub par performance from Artest int he playoffs.

We probably don't do as well vs. the Lakers without Yao though...just because we needed the offensive options.

There was a game where Artest was not listed to play because of a bad ankle and he showed anyway to play cause Tmac couldn't.

He played overtime and was the hero.

Those are the types of games I remember.. SCREW THE STATS.

I commend Artest for playing through a sprained ankle...it hurts, but its not the worst of basketball injuries out there.

What I remember about Artest is him dribbling around the perimeter aimlessly, and either turning the ball over or taking an ill advised shot.

All he had to do was get the ball to Yao, Scola, or Brooks if he was having an off night shooting.

You can say screw the stats all you want to, BUT STATS NEVER LIE...opinions and feelings of a player can be biased a lot, but stats always tells the truth and stats have no bias

If you say screw the stats, you take away integrity from an argument. Thats as factual as you can get.

i don't know why this is still going on. pippen was basically never a rocket (his heart was not set on this team one bit)

artest wins this race by a bajillion miles. but it's also to be said about artest's play and influence on this team b/c morey didn't care to resign him or not despite our most successful season in a decade plus.

The biggest mistake was thinking a role player, albeit a very good one could be given a bigger role, bigger contract, and replace a guy that had led a team before. I think pippen played poorly and also rudy with that bland, stand around offense didn't help either. Either way, shaq destroyed dream in the playoffs and kobe shut down pippen and the run was over.

Right, He came in the Kenny Thomas trade and bolted the next season. He did show flashes in his game but it did not strike any fear to teams that the Rockets faced.

I wonder what would have happened if we won game 1 of that series?

Shaq still would've worn dream out (he was 36 at the time) and a young and active Kobe and Fisher would hound Pippen and our backcourt.

Barkley would get his, but unless our bench goes crazy with 3 point shooting, no way we beat the Lakers...Shaq was just that dominant, plus the had a productive Glen Rice and young Kobe.

I say at worst, we would've lost in a blowout in Game 5 at LA, similar to what happened in Utah in 98 (Drexler's last game).

We were heavily outmatched by that team. Just a horrible matchup.

    Three teams you gotta like:

The Renovated Rockets: 31-19, started out decently, but never really clicked, out in the 1st round in disappointing fashion, imploded afterwards.

The Hardworking Pacers: 33-17, their one big shot after Jordan as their window was closing, upset by an underdog Knicks team in the ECF's.

The Underdog Bulls 13-37, one of the worst teams of its era; Dickey Simpkins averaged 30 mpg and Kornel David was a key contributor off the bench with nearly 20 mpg, enough said.
