No one said otherwise, except for DV who said he would have blown off Thanksgiving with his mom had UT not blown it against Tech.

    check this out:
If UT was playing for a meaningful game, I was planning on coming back up, but as it is I would rather spend that time with my family since I have the chance.

anyhow, DV knows I'm just giving him the bizness, since he gave me the business about Rice baseball....but I didn't cry. :p

    MR,

I was the same way before I got married. When I was dating my wife, we never went anywhere near a sports bar or to a game even (even though i had season tickets). All my attention went to her. Now, if we both arent at the game, she cant pull me away from the TV for anything if the Rockets are on. Now she always says "I remember when we dated that you would always take me some place nice where there were no sports. Now, your version of a nice place is "S.R.O."

Dont disappoint her later on by giving into sports temptation!
    :D

Believe it or not, some people watch games because of players they know. I can guarantee you Chris Simms and Roy Williams are ten times more popular names than Carlyle Holiday and Omar Jenkins.

I'm not saying it would completely make up for Notre Dame name factor, but the fact that Texas has such recognizable players would be a boost.

I think HeyP puts it the best. I am glad that DV wants to spend time with his family. Family values is very important. However, and this only applies to me, two losses would not be the factor in going to the final game or not. I'm about to graduate, I don't know what my chances are of seeing a Horn game live again. Don't know if I'll have the money.

Also, assuming DV is in school for only 4 years, he most likely will have two chances to see ATM/UT at DKR. I'm not blasting DV either. I think it's great to spend time with the family.

DV, your friend with the 3 tickets, how much?

Cat: Have you not seen Orange Bowl officials say they'll take ND with 2 losses? Iowa already locked up one BCS spot.....

    duke: re-read my original post.

I maintained that if the Orange Bowl has the choice of the at-large team, then Notre Dame is the choice. However, if it's the Sugar, it's up in the air. And I haven't read any article that says it's solely the Orange Bowl's choice.

    DVauthrin,

btw: off topic. You want a Smeggy Tour ticket, right? I made the mistake of deleting some emails. Email me again if you need one.

Cat, how many non-UT fans do you think tune in just to see Chris play? I would say not many. Notre Dame probably gets the attention of ecery Catholic sports fan, regardless of who the QB is.

There aren't alot of guys (right now) in Georgia who say "UT's on? Can't wait to see Chris play."

And I think he's a great QB, but people don't watch because of him. Well, some may watch just to see him fail. Now, Barry Sanders, Charles woodson, etc guys like that draw the attention of the average fan.

Notre Dame is the Dallas Cowboys of college football. Either you love them or you hate them. No middle ground. I hate both so I tune in to root for their opponents.

Texas does not have the national love/hatred of Notre Dame. One reason is ND has its own television network and does not share any revenue.

Alot of people hate the state of Texas. If UT puts together a dynasty, I think they could be similar to ND. Remember, alot of people used to tune in to see Miami or FSU in the early 90's.

I would say a lot. For a positive or negative reasons, the name Simms draws viewers, like Manning did a few years ago, and so on. Even Roy Williams and Cedric Benson were hyped as two of the top players in the nation before the season. I'm not saying it would be as much as Notre Dame, but the big name factor of the Texas players (I've been to other college football boards, our players are much more talked about and known) would give them a boost over a typical big public university.

It may not be quite as large as the name of Notre Dame, but it WOULD be an above average TV audience. And if you weigh that against the obvious advantages of merchandise and other regional sales that would be enhanced by the large UT fan base in New Orleans... it's pretty close. It could go either way, in terms of overall money from the entire package. And if that were to occur, there might be a small phychological edge among the Sugar Bowl committee to not pick a Notre Dame team that just got waxed by USC in their last game of the season. (check Nebraska's bowl performance last year)
