Dude, Vtrain, go to sleep. Sure we're all hungover about the Tech game. You're a little younger than me. I sat in my Jester West dorm room freshman year, Fall 98, with four of my buddies in astonishment, as our beloved Horns fell 42-35 to the Red Raiders in Lubbock. Despite a magnificent effort by Wane McGarity, who hauled in 4 TDs, our defense bent over repeatedly. Some dude down the hall took a golf club to the water fountain on my floor, and busted it up really good.

Midway through the 3rd Quarter on Saturday, from my Far West apt, I had a strange feeling of Deja Vu. Roy's performance almost paralleled that of McGarity. Our defense looked every bit as pitiful as the one Mack inherited in '98. I felt sick to my stomach, and watched our D take the field over and over again only to be anally raped by a short, white walk-on named Wes Welker. Eerily similar to "Little" Ricky Williams of Tech who torched us that cold '98 evening.

I expressed my discontent Saturday by smashing my end-table lamp on the floor, kicking the wall repeatedly, chunking the remote, and flipping over the coffee table. My roommate went so far as to rip the autographed Mack Brown photo off the wall, and tear it to shreds.

But you see my friend. The Longhorns will live to fight another day. There will be more big wins and more disappointed. I will be loud and proud on T+1 as the Horns beat up on aggy. I will keep my head high, wear my burnt orange, and cheer our guys through thick and thin. And I will be freezing my nuts off in Dallas at 10AM at the Cotton Bowl while the Longhorns put the hurt on Ron Zook's Florida Gators.

Hungover, no chance in hell, Baqui-as I think getting drunk is one of the most pointless acts of mankind. Casual drinking is more my thing. I just decided to prove, to all these people questioning my dedication, that I still have IT.

I enjoy longhorn football, I just don't like losing to teams we should crush in Tech. At least OU is semi acceptable, compared to Tech.

My life has not stopped, and in fact I am doing quite fine. I wasn't anticipating me wanting to sell my aggie ticket as turning into this lets see if Vtrain has lost his UT pride, instead of what I intended.

That post was sarcastic, but it was to prove a point: GET OFF MY BACK, please, as you won't find a more dedicated sports fan than me. There's a reason I am working my a** off to be a sportscaster.

I meant hungover emotionally. I haven't drank in 2 weeks (Ramadan) so that wasn't a factor in the temper tantrum thrown in the apartment.

Obviously, you're not a fair weather fan if you're posting about the Horns on a Rockets website at 1:30AM on a school night. Enjoy T+1 with your family, dude, and look forward to hearing you on 1300 The Zone in the future.

The Cat, in your scenario, Notre Dame goes to a bowl. Heck, they may have gone ahead of a 1-loss Texas teram if we were not in the top 4 BCS. Notre Dame is one team that has more pull than Texas.

    Baqui, love your spirit.

DV, I would love the ticket, but do you know how I can get another one?

Do they need to be together in terms of seats?

If so, I know a friend who has 3 tickets together avail.

If not, I can get one from her, plus mine.

    It's up to you.

You know...if the Aggies lose it's just because Reggie isn't playing! :D That's my alibi and I'm stickin' to it!

Seriously though, have fun at the game! What time does it start this year 8, 9, or 10 in the morning?

To me, this is no different than not wanting to go to the Baylor game because the game was going to be boring as hell.

Hell, if I'd been close to a computer after the loss, I'd have changed my flight plans for next week to spend Thanksgiving in California with my family instead of flying back for the A&M game. **** you if you think that makes me a fairweather fan.

11 am isn't as bad as the Cotton Bowl which starts at 10 am local time. Football at 10 am?!? Unbelievable.

Reread my post. It's not a lock, at all. People want to assume Notre Dame is a lock because of their name, but how many times has it happened? Once?

Texas would pack the Sugar Bowl even more than Notre Dame. There's a huge, huge Texas fanbase in the greater New Orleans area, and you can bet people would make the drive from Austin. The Sugar Bowl loved last year's game between LSU and Illinois... the revenue they got from a local team was tremendous. And we have the name players to get TV ratings.

Notre Dame's the favorite, and they're a lock if the Orange Bowl is picking the at-large team. But, if it's the Sugar that picks (and it's a 50-50 shot), Texas has just as much of a chance as Notre Dame, imo.

Then let's just call you a badweather Family Man....or a Boring Game Family Man

    Is that better?

RM95's Mother: "You coming home this thxgiving son."

RM95: "Yeah, mom. We totally blew it this year, despite having the best all-around university in Texas, and Texas A&M giving us a second chance, so now we have no chance of anything more than a meaningless bowl game later, so the rest of the football season bores me, and I just want to forget all about the college season. So, I'm looking forward to your Turkey this year afterall."

Right. And what's wrong with that? I'm still rooting for the team, even if I'm not going to the games. What about those fans who aren't able to get tickets?

BTW, I'm still going, but I completely understand and appreciate DV's attitude.

I sympathize ... I do. I know what it is like to have dreams shattered in a loss that you should have won. Do you realize that Rice is winnless in 30 yrs in every football game that they were supposed to win that would secure them a bowl game. I sure wish Rice could make it to a meaningless bowl game one of these years. It's a pipe dream that we have in common. Rice making a bowl is as likely as UT winning a football title. You all shouldn't be so hard on yourself. You are our only chance of a Texas school besides A&M beating Oklahoma, much less winning a title.

All that's left this year is spending time with the family and sympathizing with the heartbroken fans who "don't want to think about football the rest of the season."

    it is so sad.

Records aside, there is something special about UT/ATM. This is not Baylor/UT. I think this team is underachieving, but it's been much worse and I'd still love to go see it. It should be an exciting game.

How many times has a 9-2 ND team been eligible for a BCS bowl? I think just once, when OSU exposed them in 2000. And it's not just about packing the stadium. Both teams would pack almost any BCS bowl. Notre Dame brings more tv viewers.

My guess is that a Texas team led by Chris Simms would get nearly the same viewers. If there is a gap, it would be more than made up for by merchandise sales and other revenue increases by having a large Texas fanbase in the New Orleans area. Even fans that didn't have tickets to the game would be in the Sugar Bowl area, buying merchandise, programs, etc.

Actually, the ideal scenario for us might be if LSU repeats as SEC Champion by beating Georgia in Atlanta. I can guarantee that Sugar Bowl officials would be salivating at the chance of a Texas-LSU game...

I can perfectly understand DV's feelings of wanting to see his family. Believe it or not, guys, there are some things more important than a football game.

Thursday night is going to be a sports heaven for me...Miami is on ESPN playing Pitt and the Rox are on TNT playing the Mavericks. I will tape one of those games (probably the Rockets one) since they come on about the same time.

However, guess what? I'll be giving a call to this girl that I am seeing sometime during the games. And, the TVs will be off and my entire focus will be on her and her conversation and not some football or basketball game.

    Scary, huh?
