Oh my god Manny, that's crazy. The songs are practically identical.

I am putting this on my next mixed CD!

But there are 2 differences that you are not considering Max.

    1) The bands you listed (don't really know about Counting Crows because I never listened to them) all had a VARIETY of sound coming out of them. I know some will laugh at me, but Pearl Jam and Nirvana did have some songs that did not sound the same. They may have well had some that did but they didn't do it every time like these assclowns Nickelback did.

    2) 10 years from now, people will still be listening to the artists you named (once again, I don't know about Counting Crows). Do you think that people will be listening to Nickelback, Creed, Britney, etc in 10 years?

Manny and MadMax, none of this changes the fact that Nickleback blows chunks.

Pathetically I love Nickelback. Great Pop/Rock songs, singable, my kids love 'em.

I really like everything they have released.

i understand. but then he should be saying, "the bands i really don't like are the ones who produce the same sound over and over again." that's not what he said. he admits to having a kneejerk reaction, basically, to anything that gets labelled as popular or hits the Top 40. I think that's extremely limiting, particularly for someone who makes a living as a music critic.

I like Nickelback as well, it's great music to workout to, but I don't let my kids listen to them. Have you listened to the lyrics? Nearly every song is about sex or domestic violence.

Musically you are all correct that they have zero originallity, but I like that rhythem they use. It get's me pumped up.

You know the sad thing....this is all I had to read to know who you were talking about and the two songs:

I think these days bands do this type of stuff all the time.

The Rick Astley thing is funny... I remember those songs (that song :D ).

Speaking of Britney Spears, you could probably superimpose most of her songs on each other.

Counting Crows, for those who don't know, have produced a lot of different sounds. Each album has a characteristic feel to it, but even then, there's a lot of variety within each one. Adam Duritz is still one of my favorite songwriters out there. (Can't get into the new album, though; it's just not the same. I just don't feel the creativity or emotional intensity on it. And don't even get me started on that "Big Yellow Taxi". :( )

I think Nickelback's ok...and I saw this a week ago. No wonder why I like those two songs but get tired of them real quickly.

ummm, yes. you don't think britney/creed/nickelback are gonna be regulars on whatever radio stations play music from this time? it ain't gonna be full of just dmb, counting crows and the rest.

you woulda probably dismissed a lot of stuff from the 50's and 60's as crap and i still hear it all the time on oldies radio. of course you once asked this same thing about moby and eminem. and i think we all know who's gonna win out in that competition.

I've a sneaking suspicion Britney Spears didn't start out in dive bars.

it still took a ton of work to get to the top. traveling on whatever limited funds the family had to competitions all around the country. off broadway plays at 8. sending in demos to tons of record labels. they didn't just knock on the door one morning with a contract in hand.

It's probably no surprise that I don't enjoy "popular" or "Top 40" music. It's corporate, bland, overplayed, unoriginal, boring, bland, and boring, It's also dumb. But just because I don't enjoy it doesn't mean I don't listen to it. I mean, how can you not when radio and TV is infested with this crap.

do they teach everyone the same speech in music snob class or something? the only thing more annoying than hearing a nickelback song for the millionth time is reading this line for the millionth time.
