Ummm. The coaches didn't vote--not even the GMs got to vote. Only the owners can vote for rules changes.

Beside, the vote was indeed to stop a 3 guard system we installed, just like they want to stop Philly and the Knicks. Plus, they want to stop 2 ball that the Jazz made popular.

Fine, I was a Rudy basher, because I wanted the Rockets to use Willis more, but that was before I could see everyone game, and a new system. Until I got to see 82 games a year for the last 2 years as he rolled out a new system.

Heypee...Im referring to the 22 coaches polled as to if they believe the rule changes were needed, and if theyd vote for zone defense, and said yes. And on that note...Goodnite.

I'm tired of hearing about Shandon's great defense. He does play really good D, but he's horrible on the offensive side. Whatever advantages he has on the offensive side were taken away from him when Mobley took his job and left SA in the 3 spot. Anderson can't post up the opposing teams small forward so there goes the only decent part of his offense.

I'd much rather have a SF that can hit the open shot over Anderson and his decent D.

Please don't refer to Anderson's FG % as a sign he's a good shooter, Los has a nice FG % too and I don't want to see him clank jumpshots either.

Anderson is a liability on the court, 4 on 5 basketball on the offensive side is what you get with SA.

If we can get him off the bench as a 6th man, then it wouldn't be so bad, but he's not starter material IMO, especially Starting Small Forward material.

I am critical of Shandon after two years, because he has proven to me he has no basketball offensive fundamentals worthy of what Fegan is going to hype up.

Barkley was clocked at 53%, btw.

And you cannot win by running the same play, much less 82-0, otherwise the Lakers and Shaq would never lose.

Disbelieving my stats and Jim Boylen's is something you can still do, if that makes your argument stronger, but I never said we should run that play MORE. I have always said we should run it LESS. To succeed in developing more options in a new offense, coaches must first prove to the defense that they have one strong play... That is what triggers the growth into new options.

That is the entire reason for my patience with Mobley and my patience with the ISOs, because the strenght of simplicity is what makes the complicated options possible.

Weak...oh well. What can I expect from a Rudy basher with an agenda to predict failure, so must cling to the notion of a non-evolving team and watch them through mighty Darkside glasses.

This isn't Rudy Bashing. This is expressing a desire for the Rockets to involve Shandon more next season. I am upset that Rudy didn't do more to include Shandon in his offense. I don't have some kind of "agenda". I don't like to support Rudy bashing; however, I believe that he could do better as a coach. This is one of the situations he could improve on.

I have always liked Rudy, but "seeing a full 82 games" has allowed me to see some flaws in his beloved system that need correcting. Call me a dime-a-dozen GM if you like. I don't really care. To me, you are nothing more than a cocky fan with a pocket playbook and plenty of blank tapes.

The reason Shandon isnt used in our offense is the same reason some people want the zone instituted. Rudy is one heck of a coach. It is no coincidence that our lack of ball movemement made us a 45 game winner this year. Rudy knows what works. Will we lose more games if Shandon leaves and isnt replaced. Yes. But the question you should be asking is: If we still have Shandon but run twice as many plays through him will we win any more games? Undoubtedly no. Rudy and Co. do their homework and the numbers are in their favor percentage wise when a play is not run through Shandon. Thats why we dont run any plays through Shandon.

With the rule changes coming in, i say we should give SA another chance with the Rocks. If he is smart enough, he would give hinself that chance too.

Rudy will be drawing up new plays for next season, and hopefully, with defences clamping down on Francis and Mobley, we would definately need a 3rd guy to go to, and i think SA should be the guy. With his performances this year, other coaches might over look him when it comes to close games, and that when SA should step up, if not for the Rockets, then for his own stock and show everyone that he can be a player in the clutch.

Also, with new defences allowed, i think we need a player of his calibre who can play good D. Rudy may have shown that he doesn't like SA much when it comes to offence, but I see SA playing a role ala Micheal Cooper during the showtime days of LA. ok, Coop was a better defender.. hey, I needed a name alright?

I say heck to CWebb, try to keep SA and see what we can get from the draft. We will never improve much if we keep making major changes every off season. Yes, I would consider an SA deal a major change because it does alot to our lineup and salary cap.

Dreamshake, I can't hang with most of the posters on this board simply because I don't have the opportunity to see most of the games.

However, you sound to me like a child who just got his nose bloodied by a sucker-punch.

As it is, I think you're just trying to hide a very weak, extremely thin thesis behind a smokescreen of gibbering insults and defensive finger-pointing.

When you start a thread like this, be ready to back up your points with unbiased fact, rather than emotional conjecture.

Otherwise, you idiots should know better than to mess with heypee. [IMG]

Anderson is usually the 4th or 5th option on offense. No team in the NBA runs many plays for the 4th or 5th option. Let's face it, after Francis, Mobley, Olajuwon and Taylor get their shots, there's not a whole lot left to go around. Anderson's shots have to come by runnning the floor and getting garbage points.

As far as defense, Anderson works hard and is a good defender, but he's not a great defender. I can't think of too many people he's shut down since he's been here.

Personally, I'd also take Ruben Patterson over Anderson.

Why do we particularly care what Anderson's offensive contributions are? There isn't a single team where the 5th option is a big scorer.

Look at Philly. Their offense is almost entirely Iverson, when he's clicking. The rest of the team is built on defense-first guys, hustle players, and rebounders. Why couldn't the Rockets benefit from a similar system? I know we don't have an Iverson on the club, but Francis and Mobley (and Dream, or Webber, or whoever is on the squad next season) are going to carry the brunt of the scoring load. We can certainly carry a great defense / poor offense player at the 3. I'm not sure that Anderson is the guy for that spot, because of his size, but a Bo Outlaw type might be perfect.

    SamCassell,

The reason the Rocket's can't benefit from a similar system (and the main point all Rudy-bashers like ZRB/DS/Tod/Caveman conveniently ignore) is that we have had devastating injuries to our frontline two years in a row.

With no frontline and a PG who never played PG before, Rudy was stripped of his defense, and his offense noticeably lacked the chemistry to run complicated options that we indeed started seeing from March on. Mo' has to play center, and keeps getting into foul trouble. It took Dream over 1 1/2 years to even know what Rudy's new role was for him, largely due to his injuries and missing practice. Just when Mobley and Collier started clicking off the bench with pnr's, Collier goes down. With no inside presence, the guard defense will always look worse.

Are we supposed to just automatically infer from these wishy washy dreambaked up posts that Shandon is a 13-15 ppg player? Does anybody have any objective reasons or particular plays to show that if given plays, Shandon will produce?

I had an opportunity to watch Shandon for a long time here in Utah. That little post up move was quite effective, and he became famous for it. Unfortunately, everytime I've seen him go to it in the past two years, the inbounder's defender just drops in, and slaps the ball away from him as he makes his move. It's as if now that he's given quality starter minutes against other starters, coaches take the time to review tape on the guy. It's probably not to hard to figure him out... when was the last time he did it and actually made the move and had time to pass back out? Can he even get a pass back out 25% of the time? 15% of the time? This isn't a go to move for Shandon anymore.

His go to moves now consist of a layup off of the break, or a three pointer in the flow of the offense. He doesn't get plays made for him, but what plays would you guys give him? A dribble two steps and turn the ball over? The guy gets the same turnovers per minute that Cuttino does, and Cuttino handles the ball infinitely more than Shandon does. The same fetchin' turnovers!

BTW, it sure is easy for us backseaters to question the coach at any given minute. Hell, it's not like we have to get hired, or produce, or win championships... b/c hell, we've got intuition. I've got this feeling... that Shandon needs plays run for him. I have no ****ing idea what I'm talking about, but yee hoo!, pass the bud!, I'm gonnnnnna yell at the tv! yeeeee hoooo!

heypee, I'm talking long term plan. Injuries did hurt last season, but assume for a sec that we are fairly injury free next season and beyond. Then doesn't it make sense to surround our playmakers with defense-first guys? Richard Jefferson would be a perfect fit at the 3, if he's available. At center (assuming Hakeem is gone) I would be happy with 8+ boards and good defense. Forget the scoring numbers; sometimes too many scorers is a bad thing (like in Portland).

sometimes too many defenders and no scoring is a bad thing too: see philadelphia.

what we need is a small forward who plays good team defense and can hit an open shot. that is why richard jefferson would be a good fit.

that is also why a hot wizard is better than an average shandn.
