Saying we need to get rid of Cato because he is offensively limited is silly. He is the backup center. As Yao Ming gets better and better, Cato will get fewer and fewer minutes. We don't need Cato to be doing drop steps and fadeaway jumpers. We need him to play within his game, and do the grunt work. In the past that has been a problem...but this season Cato has done exactly what has been asked of him. True, he makes a good chunk of change for a backup center, but he is one of the top 3 backup centers in the league right now (2nd in rebounds per 48 minutes and he plays decent defense with occasional blocked shots).

I agree on a lot of your points. But (and if feels really weird saying this after the last 2-3 years of CONSTANT frustration out of our 5 spot) our center position is pefectly fine and needs no tweaking, in my opinion. Every other spot could use a change of personel or some serious development of a player, but I really like what we have out of our centers right now and I wouldn't change it.

Hell, I would trade Mobley, Moochie and Collier for Eric Snow, 'cause we sure ain't gonna get Payton, Nash or Kidd.

This whole discussion group might need some serious rehab.

Hey, I know. All those eye-popping passes Yao Ming did earlier was actually the poison that made this team regress. Now Steve has to do more fancy stuff to get his highlights on espn.

Just a thought. :(

Well if it influenced Steve to pass more. I would not mind.

I actually think Cat has more fire than Steve. Posey is a good one as well.

One Labrador, one Pit Bull, and .... one Scrooge!

Bah Humbug.

Have a A Litttle More Understanding.
Cat is a very good player for his salary - and that's a rare commodity in the NBA. His defense has gotten better this season, his passing has improved, his shot selection has improved, and his FT% has improved.

How About Liking My Underrated players.
Eddie doesn't deserve this kind of abuse. Is he going to look bad compared to two of the most outstanding players of his generation? Yeah - but wait until he fills out a little bit. Funny as it may sound, Eddie would serve the Rockets better as a solid PF than a star who demands the ball and the Max.
Posey is a great fit for the Rockets - I hope we can keep him for his defense alone.
Cato is the second best rebounder in the NBA per 48 minutes - and possibly the best backup center. I bet you even Yao is glad to have Cato sub in for him sometimes.

Oh, and lay off of Rudy. Think it's easy coaching such a young team? By the way, the more active you are in the offense, the more tired and beat up you get - especially down low. Does anyone really want to see Yao break down in his first season?

Didn't think so.

No doubt! We could and should win 50 games in this year's version of the NBA. It's a shame we have to pay this much money to watch "potential".

Great post Almu!

I agree with you 100%!! Funny to see all these trade type posts pop up now after we lose a few. I recall earlier this year, people would bash me to propose getting a legit PF and a pure PG.

I think you covered everything extremely well in your post. The only tidbit I would like to add is this.

Potential is GREAT. But there must be balance to a team. You can not have 12 guys full of potential. You have to have balance.
Right now, we dont have that type of balance.

Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Terriers, that's a lotta dogs on one team. Maybe that's why they traded Kenny!:)
