Maybe not. For example, someone mentioned A-Ha as a one hit wonder. "Take On Me" was probably their only song that reached the top 40 in the USA however the group has been very successful in Europe and released a new album last year. A-Ha is known for "Take On Me" but I really like a couple of their other songs like "The Sun Always Shines on TV" and "Summer Moved On".
Right. The Grateful Dead only had one top 40 hit I think, and I don't think anyone would call them a 1-hit wonder. Let's say Metallica fell back out of the mainstream after "One", would they be a one hit wonder? I think not. Some bands that only have one real "hit" may still have a ton of fans. RM95 -- most bands I like don't even have one hit. Also the Tubes were kind of a punk band that I think put out a few albums before "She's a Beauty". Check out the song "White Punks on Dope". I've been meaning to pick up their debut album...I hear it's pretty good. I wouldn't call them a one-hit wonder.
Damn dude it's like your reading straight from my music library or something. Also, LEN and Snow are fairly well known in Canada I believe. Or so I assume since they got quite a bit of air play on much music when I got that channel last year at UT. some more one hitters: Jefferson Starship (or just starship sometimes): We built this city (I don't think they had another one) Aqua - Barbie Girl Coolio- Gangsta's Paradise (I saw he had a song called fantastic voyage on a commercial but I never heard it) I'm sure someone will bring up all sorts of hits by these groups but I don't remember any. Y'all have mentioned just about all the other I could've thought of.
You guys must have smoked 1 line too many of crack if you think Crowded House were a one hit wonder, they are one of Australia's most successfull bands, next thing you'll say Midnight Oil and INXS were one hit wonders, but i forgot successfull is only measured by success in the US. Just to throw one Aussie band out there Men at Work, had several really well known songs but the rest are poo!! And The Proclaimers, that whole first album is sensational and I think they have a new single out now!
WHOAA!! Starship had another #1 with Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now and when they were Jefferson Airplane, they had the classic, Don't You Want Somebody to Love plus White Rabbitt (which might have not been a top 40 hit). Coolio had a song called 1,2,3,4 (Sumpin' New) plus Fantastic Voyage.
Although they had a minor follow-up hit, which no one probably remembers except me, EMF was a similar band to Jesus Jones and they had the huge smash, "Unbelievable". Trivia question: What was the name of EMF's follow-up to Unbelievable?
Anybody else remember that Soviet band Gorky Park? They had one song called "Bang" that may not have actually been a hit as such, but got a ton of play on MTV. They were on the bill at the Moscow Peace Festival with Ozzy, the Scorpions, and a couple of other bands in '89.
Heck, he's had 3 top 15 pop singles...plus the song "#1" from the Training Day soundtrack will probably crack the top 40.
Europe was the band that had The Final Countdown....but they had another song that got some airplay called Carrie.
