You're giving away too much. Giving Francis with Rafer and Shane is much better. Cuttino will be salivating with this offer.
Maggette dominates the ball too much for my taste. His shot selection is about as poor as his track record goes for staying healthy. Has he ever played a full season? Plus, as much of a better individual player he is than Battier I still hate the idea of losing Battier. It would be like if you took Bruce Bowen off the Spurs. Sure, they would still be good and could probably find somebody to replace him but it still just wouldn't be the same. All those key defensive stops, big shots and intangibles may seem insignificant when compared to a guy that can score 20 PPG but sometimes you have to choose a guy that will score 10 PPG and do all the little things for ya instead. As for Cassell, i've suggested this numerous times myself. It makes sense if we're looking for a leader and a gutsy player to bring off the bench to take big shots. I don't like the idea of starting him. I think he would get shredded even worse defensively than Rafer and company. All the same, he's still the kind of player a good playoff team needs on their roster. Plus, he's an expiring contract so if we are indeed able to pull off some kind of Rafer/____ swap it also gets us rid of Rafer's contract that runs for two more seasons after this one.
his first year? no, he's never been really healthy throughout the season, but with the exception of 05/06, he's never been seriously injured for a whole season either. i think you're overvaluing the effect of a Bruce Bowen. If all you do is replace Bowen (or Battier) with another marginal player but doesn't do the little things, that's clearly a step backwards. But Maggette is twice the offensive player Shane is, and a better rebounder to boot. His shot selection can be suspect, but on the other hand he is well known for getting to the free throw line a lot. I like Shane a lot, but Maggette is just by far the better player. can't complain with that...
Deron Williams He is young, has no real weakness in his game and seems to come up big in big games against other elite PG.
it's funny how all these people want all stars if that's the case, i want lebron jose calderon or chucky atkins
Oops. Maybe I didn't read thoroughly. I thought the thread was about ANY current player we want in a perfect world. I didn't know it was supposed to be realistic. I think Steve Blakes' game is nice.
Why don't we just trade with the Spurs again for Washington. That guy was incredible when he got minutes. Spurs seem to be giving away players to the rest of the league for free. We got Scola for nothing and he's putting up fantastic numbers. Kings got Udrih for nothing and now he's scoring over 20 ppg and having great assist numbers. So why not Washington who really the Spurs are having a hard time figuring out how he fits in the roster with all the incoming players next year.
Maggette is a good player but I seriously doubt the Clippers would want to move him anyways. He's one of the best overall value players in the league. There aren't many 20 PPG scorers playing for $7-8 million a year. Plus, the Clippers are managing to stay afloat without Brand. Where is the motivation to move him? I see what you're saying but all the same I still prefer the much smarter and more efficient "glue guy" that you can depend on for 82 games. A guy you can depend on to chase and harrass the opponent's best player is an option not many teams have. He's a player that is really never going to hurt you in any facet of the game unless you're asking him to score, which in a perfect world nobody should be doing. I think we're better off standing pat and trying to dump Rafer elsewhere.
