Hopefully Bob made the decision to get rid of Kubiak 60 % of the way through the season and has a deal setup with Cowher or Dungy.
Happened against Seattle as well, only Seattle is a much worse team than the Dolphins. The last two weeks I think are the only games we ran out the clock at the end. Most of the time when the game is within a score the Texans end up having to punt it back. The inconsistency on this team is troubling. It happened from the start of the season and carried on to week 17.
Yep. If Cowher is a Panther, I'm not nearly as set to ditch Kubiack. I still see us spinning wheels with his leadership, but 8 or 9 wins beats bringing in a loser like Herm Edwards.
*Not being prepared for game 1 against a rookie QB and rookie coach. *Shooting for the end zone on 3rd and 1 against the Colts. *Goal Line play calling - be it sticking to Brown so much, a dumb hb pass, or never trying the back corner fade with the best receiver in the game. Ideally it would be nice to dump him, but eventually we'll limp into the playoffs under him. I don't see him becoming a Super Bowl quality coach, or the Texans being a top seed under him. He's stubborn and the few mistakes he makes are on a huge scale.
Yes. If we slide into a playoff spot, he must come back. It's more of a fine line to me if they go 9-7 but don't reach the playoffs (even though they need help). I think the fact that they need help, and if they don't get it, is on him... because they should be at 10 wins already.
Texans have to call runs to set up the play action pass. Its not like the Texans run a shotgun offense. But its those dang short yardage situations where they come up empty time and time again thats agonizing. Another year for Kubiak if they dont find an upgrade.
Unless there is an definte upgrade I'd probaly bring him back but its a tough decision. With the defense improving they are just a decent running game away from being a contender. That is suppsoed to be Kubiaks thing I'd give him an offseason to figure that out. Bring in some bigger OL and draft a runnning back.... Now if dungy or cowher are possiblities than good bye Kubiak....... Schedule will be much harder next year with the NFC east and a possible 2nd place AFC finish. It could be a disaster of a year or they improve again but still finish at 9-7 and miss out what do you than?
At this point, it doesn't matter what WE think...he's coming back in all likelihood, whether they make the playoffs or not.
I'm with you...I didn't mean to crap on the thread. My opinion, in this case, is marginalized in my own mind by my own perception that he's almost certainly coming back.
There are 32 teams in the NFL, only a couple of them will have a "successful " year. The Texans are stunningly exciting to watch when they are hitting on all cylinders and they have a good chance to win any game they play. That is what you want for your entertainment dollar. If there were any guarantees of an upgrade then every team would be doing it. But the reality is the coaching carousel goes round and round and only every once in while someone catches the lightning. Even bringing in Cowher would be taking a risk because this team has been built for Kubiak's style so the players might not fit well. We have like a who's who of NFL staffers now. No new coach could assemble a more experienced group. A new coach would have to pick from the unemployment line. I'd be more interested in seeing what tweaks our guys can add rather than starting over. We need a bad ass center (Caldwell?) and a road grader guard. We need a disruptive interior D lineman (Cody in the 1st?). And we need The Big Back (Legarrette Blount in the 5th?). Pile on the bandwagon, this team is going to be good next year.
On ESPN, its stated that Fox is likely to remain at Carolina. If Cowher is interested in the Texans, I think you would have to go for it. Texans another 8-8 finish this year. Next year with a much tougher schedule with an improved AFC South, AFC West and NFC East, I say the Texans at best finish around .500 again and miss the playoffs. Kubiak gets fired after next season for missing the playoffs for 5 years. So might as well bring a new coach that you were going to bring in after next season anyways.
It's funny about 10 other franchises are thinking the same exact thing. Shanahan is gone with the Redskins, Cowher most likely to the Panthers, and then uhh.... You end up with people like Brian Billick....yuck.
The media has stated that Fox is likely to remain with the Panthers. Therefore Cowher could end up anywhere now.
the game that could make or break kubes was st. louis. we won. game over on the new coach thing til 2010 is done.
This is a nice test because it is a game against a good team that means something. There's no guarantee they win even if they play their best game to date. If they can play closer to the Seattle game, win or lose I think he deserves another year. If they play closer to the St. Louis game and lose, then I do think he needs go. Regardless, I think he gets another year because in all likelihood the Texans will do just enough, win or lose, to persuade McNair to keep him another season. And like others have said, bringing in an elite coach doesn't guarantee anything.
charlie casserly just said on the cbs pregame show that he thinks kubiak will get an extension during the offseason. said mcnair is happy with the progress of the team So expect him to be fired on monday
A little off topic but also said look for Kyle to head to DC with Mike. He turned down an extension last year to stay with the Texans and said he wants to coach with Daddy.
