I agree. It is just one game. Rockets will bounce back vs the Mavs. Some people just amaze me with their comments after one game.
people need to realize that the rockets played like garbage against a solid team and still had a chance to win. Not many teams will shoot over 50% on the rockets. Thats an anomaly. yeah it sucks to lose but its better to play your best basketball at the end of the season than it is at the start.
yeah, but we cant afford stupid losses in the beginning of the season especially to a r****ded team like Utah.. when you are in late March and you are at .500, and u have a 5 game road trip to teams including Dallas and Miami, u would hope that u get a time machine and go back to win easy games in early November.. dont get me wrong, I still think all the B!^*&ing after only one game is not acceptable, but I perfectly understand why everybody is outraged.. not only it was a bad loss but the team performed terribly and WAAAAAAAAAAY below expectation.. T-mac (my fav. player) shot a terrible percentage, Novak Missed his 3's, Battier got KILLED on both ends, Yao got blocked by a guard, Rafer started out 0 for 9, Deron Williams took everybody INCLUDING 7-6 YAO MING to the hoop TWICE..!! that's not mentioning Padgett stepping on the line when he was inbounding (and that's exactly when I switched to ESPN and started watching PHX)..all of this is really frustrating..
it's hilarious that people are coming in here and posting their trade solutions. I think it's even hilarious that the thread-starter had his "solutions". Like YOU said, it's only one game. You can't assume that he won't play Howard all year b/c he did it for one game. You can't assume he'll pull Novak all year b/c he did it for one game. Listen to your own advice, and everyone chill out. I've barely read this forum all day cause it's been 3/4 full of crap.
Rockets had a very nice first game last season, then sucked all the way to the end. Hope this year it's the other way around.
i hope you guys all realize that after tonight either the spurs or the mavs will also be 0-1. its one game nothing to get crazy about. there were bad and good from the game. hopefully we can learn from the bad and continue the good. thats all we can hope for and see improvement come saturday
I agree with you, but remember this is the NBA. You can't just show up and expect to win, even against the teams you should beat. The better teams don't win all the time. I'm not trying to make an excuse, but it's only the first game of the season. We still have 81 games remaining, and I think we have enough talent to turn it around for the next game. Remeber, the Spurs usually start out slowly, then turn it up at season's end.
What sucked was the way Utah seemingly wanted it more and were quicker to the ball and basket than the Rockets matador defense. The lack of a sense of urgency is not a characteristic of a JVG team. The Rox were too laid back and the Jazz ran us off the court....that's the bummer. (uh, AND its the FREAKING HATED JAZZ!!!!! )
the reason ppl are "over-reacting" over this loss is because it didn't have to happen. i believe vassilis could have slowed williams and howard could have held boozer farther from the basket(best one can hope for against boozer). and i also believe novak should have been given more time to find his stroke instead of padget contributing next to nothing. this game could have been won with better coaching decisions.
The problem is not the we can't see that we sucked last night, its that 75% of the board is running around like someone put needles in their tampons.
V-Span might have helped, but JHO, NO FREAKIN WAAAy,... this was actually the only bright spot of the game, the fact that JVG didn't give JHO playing time..that's what he should be, A BENCH WARMER.. and for Novak, I think people, including me, got too optimistic about Novak.. he is not the best shooter in the NBA like T-mac said.. he is still a rookie, he hit a couple of shots in preseason, ok, there was no pressure, but now that things got serious, the guy looked like he has never shot the ball before.. he had a chance, actually, 2 chances.. he had 2 wide-open shots and he missed BOTH badly.. dont get me wrong, I think he has a great shot, I love his release, I think he is a great shooter, but it seems like everybody forgot about the pressure in the NBA.. Pressure can mess up everything and that's what happened to him yesterday.. even though I hate Padgett and I hate the fact that JVG played him big minutes, I still think JVG did the right thing in pulling out Novak before his confidence goes way south.. I think Novak should be given more time to get acclimated to the NBA..and I would really appreciate it if people in the "Nickname for NOvak" thread cool down the BS..
I dont agree with u on that.. I think we lost the game because we didn't put the ball in the basket (we should terribly) and we got out-hustled by a r****ded Utah team... I dont think coaching have to do anything with the loss. .. the team seemed to be totally lost ... I mean, did u see Deron Williams taking Yao to the basket ?? and in the last 2 minutes of the game ?? wth ?? ..did u see Battier posting up the guard then getting his a$$ blocked by the defender coming from the weak side ?? it was sad .. it looked like freakin High school B-ball.. how many wide open shots did we miss ?? how many LAYUPS did Luther Head, Snyder, and Alston miss?? .. now dont get me wrong, I still think u could put some blame on the coaching for not being prepared (we only ran one freakin play, give the ball to Yao, and stand behind the 3 point line, Yao gets doubled, gets the ball stripped, fastbreak, layup at the other end, that was our only play, everything else was just Individual players taking stupid shots without even moving the ball once !!).. but I dont think u can say that better coaching could've won the game for us...
One game means nothing. Chicago looked like world beaters in game one, only to be pummeled in game 2. Phoenix blew a huge lead in their game one only to come back and beat a very good team in game 2. Either Dallas or San Antonio is starting 0-1. Rox will be fine. Give them at least 10 games before any major panic starts.
Spanoulis is a rookie, and he's looked terrible the last two games. He's a good one on one defender, sure, but how many times would he turn it over or brick a shot on the other end? I don't have a problem with JVG electing to go with Luther instead in this game. Spanoulis is the third string PG for now, and that's where he deserves to be. If Rafer/Luther don't work out after a some time, then we'll try someone else. And I'm curious to see exactly who Boozer scored his points against and how. I have the game recorded, and I'll check on that when I get a chance. My problem is that this is what people say after EVERY Rockets loss. If Van Gundy made different decisions and we lost, then another set of people would have been complaining about his decisions. I just don't think it makes sense to nitpick coaching decisions after a single game. I know you like Spanoulis, but Van Gundy probably knows what his strengths and weaknesses are far better than any of us (we've only seen him in a few preseason games while he's been monitoring him in all the games AND the practices). It's a new team, and no one knows exactly what we got. There's going to be an adjustment period figuring out what the best combinations are. Losing to a solid Jazz team, on the road, without one of our best players activated is simply not that big of a deal.
