Blake Griffin: Have we yet realized what kind of numbers he is putting up so far this season?

You would have to go back 10+ seasons to Tim Duncan's rookie season to find stats similar to Griffin's.

    Duncan 1997-98: 21.1 ppg, 11.9 rbs, 2.7 apg, 26.46 EFF
    Griffin 2010-11: 21.7 ppg, 12.7 rbs, 3.3 apg, 25.26 EFF

So have we had a more recent rookie with a comparable stats to Blake Griffin since Tim Duncan? Or is Griffin really a once in a 13 year talent?

In the Rox/Clips game, can't remember the specific stats used but it said his numbers were in line with Tim Duncan, Shaq and I think David Robinson's rookie seasons. Definitely in elite company.

His issue is sustainability, if he can keep up the frenetic attack mode. I have no doubt he'll always be effective while he's in the league while HEALTHY. But he'll need to compensate with a couple go-to moves before (IF) he gets "figured out".

What kind of numbers would he have put up last year if he was healthy? I wonder if that extra year in the pros, even if he wasn't rehabbing, helped his game at all.

Duncan was an amazing rookie, Griffin is better.

Griffin is amazing at putting up numbers, but Duncan was amazing at putting up numbers and defense.

Duncan was an elite defender and shotblocker. Robinson and Duncan made it very difficult to go anywhere near the paint.

Griffin is an average defender and provides no shot blocking.

He is a superior athlete and physically stronger. Duncan was fundamentally stronger on offense and defense. Griffin has got a longer way to go before he can achieve superstardom.

I wouldn't say that at all.

Tim Duncan put up those numbers playing on a contending team with another HOF beside him. Tim Duncan also played in a much tougher league where true big men still existed and was still the primary anchor for most teams.

He should be a 25 ppg and 12+ rpg guy for years.

When he played the Rockets I saw him go up high for a rebound and just hang in the air, he looked like a damn astronaut during a moon landing

    Close but not quite.

    20.1 pts 10.0 rebs 1.6 bl 21.2 EFF
    48% FG

His numbers were a little lower than Griffin except for blocks. He was not as efficient on offense either. 48% is good for Brand, but Griffin's 52% is ELITE for a rookie.

Duncan barely got the ball his rookie year. Popovich made a point to, more or less, throw a year away with Elliott hurt and go through Robinson consistently while Duncan learned the game.

The next year, he got the ball, and the Spurs took off. Griffin is amazing, but there's a HUGE caveat when looking at TD's rookie year stats.

TD can still D it up one-on-one when he has to. He made Roy Hibbert look like a complete fool last night in the final minute. If Hibbert had converted either opportunity, the Pacers would have won. Instead, he was lucky to hit the backboard. Amazing.

I don't think Griffin can be a full time Center (he can play there if asked to) so he's not going to be as good as Duncan in roaming the paint and anchoring the defense, with that said Griffin does have the potential to be the best PF in the game. He needs to improve his 15 foot jumper and FT shooting.

His passing is REALLY REALLY GOOD. He has the patience to accept the double team and find the open man which im really impressed with.
