On the offensive, did PJ hurt us?

First of all, guys, don't get me wrong. I'm not a PJ hater,I'm a super fan of PJ,He's tough on the defensive, he doesn't give up, he has a sense of offensive rebound.
But on the offensive, his only weapon is just three pointer in the corner. He's 35 years old. He can't provide athletic talent on the offensive. I always think that PJ is more suitable for coming on as a substitute and bringing his energy into the rotation
The most common scene in the game is: the open cut opportunity ball passed to PJ when Hardon / rice broke through. PJ was half or even one position ahead of the defender when he received the ball. At this time, any forward player with qualified sports ability could easily dunk and end, while PJ would only choose to pass back because of his sports ability, forcing teammates to reorganize offensive or force project...
More intuitively, most of the time, the opponent will even intentionally empty PJ...And they can always bet right. When PJ fails to hit the bottom three of open space,he always seems at a loss,PJ can't even get 10 points...:(At the offensive,we are under the pressure of 4v5:oops::oops:

yes yes yes yes. This is the point I’ve made on here. I love PJ but I think he’s a bit overrated with defense and is a non factor on offense. I don’t understand why he doesn’t even attempt to score what seems like an easy 2. Several times he’s in the paint with a defender behind him or arms length away and all he has to do is go up hard and create contact and get a foul or dunk the ball. How many times have you seen him shoot some weird floater or layup that gets blocked because he can’t create contact or knows how to go up hard? This is where we miss Clint who finishes and gives us easy buckets around the rim. I think we are now missing Clint more than ever because 100% small ball doesn’t work. PJ as a starter doesn’t work. Give us montrez back or serge. I’m really interested in off season moves for this team. I love PJ but he’s just not good enough to start.

Shane Battier was more of an offensive threat.

i dunno they both suck lol. Very similar players. Battier might be a better perimeter defender. PJ can guard the paint better and very quick hands. I think this is where we miss CP3. with him we might have the quickest hands in the league between tuck, Covington, and Paul and sneaky James.

on point! small ball is okay..but the “small” 5 or 4 front men must be a threat on defense and offense

I said it in another thread, but yes.

PJ has averaged 5 points in the last 8 games.

He catches the ball in the corner and doesn't shoot. Or if he does shoot it's a massive brick or airball.

PJ just has to go back to just shooting the ball when he has space. That's his first and foremost job on the offensive end. It seems so simple but when players start to lose confidence they start second guessing everything. I have faith that he snap out of this funk. I hate making excuses for players, but losing his brother may be playing a roll.

I can't give up on PJ because he has been fantastic the last couple of years in the playoffs. He was probably our second best player in the playoffs last year. Playoff PJ becomes machine like defensively and he tends to take and make big corner 3's in clutch situations.

We need PJ's heart and energy in the post season. I want to believe that both he and James are bored with the regular season. The playoffs and playing for a championship are all that matters now. If PJ is healthy, that's one dude that I want on my side when it matters the most.

PJ has a nice little floater - he can put it on the floor and score if he is open to do so. It’s not often obviously but I would like to see him do it a bit more if it is there. I don’t know if there’s tracking data specifically for floaters but he is 16-31 on shots within the paint (non restricted area) which matches the eye test.

He doesn't help, he doesn't hurt, one of those situations.

He is definitely getting older though.

It's time to find a 20 year old PJ, or a 25 year old from the Russian/Euro league.

The Main problem is he is slow, cannot dribblewell, cannot pass and cannot hit layups

I’m more worried about that terrible contract they gave Gordon.

If he was the ONLY role player on offense it'd be fine. But we start 3 role players on offense (sorry Covington). You need dynamic players that can do multiple things. HOOPERS. Not role players. If you don't have that, then you better be getting defensive rebounds and playing elite defense inside & outside.

It's fine to forfeit 1 or 2 things, but this team has punted a LOT of important categories.

PJ can only shoot from corner. Sucks shooting from everywhere else.

I agree. He's a utility guy who's declining athletically as you would expect from a 35year old. ( Lebron is an alien) PJ plays way too many minutes for a guy who's a zero on offenseon most nights.

I'll take that contract over the 38 million dollar contract we have for a limited range pg who makes it difficult for us to have a Center.
