Just watched last night's episode and wow...Americans are stupid. How that lightbulb chick or the taxi guy made it is beyond me.
Me too which lead me to believe they just decided to switch up the format and make it more american idol like
Since I grew up in Amarillo, I guess I'm rooting for the guy from Canyon, Texas (his 'Lucky Penny' short used the Randall County Courthouse/Jail in the background. I've served time in that jail), but the show is painful to watch. The Three Paulas and No Simon judging panel doesn't work. Plus, they're looking for the next big director but they keep droning on and on about their concepts and their stories and whatnot. They competition is for directors, not screenwriters. Are we picking them based on their directing ability or their storytelling ability? As a member of the WGAw, I don't really appreciate their seemingly slavish devotion to the auteur theory. Most directors don't write. Even Project Greenlight was smart enough to separate the writing part from the directing part (after the first season anyway). Also, film being such a collaborative medium, our only getting to see the final product makes it difficult to judge the contestants themselves. Since we get no behind-the-scenes information, we don't know what the contestant's contribution to the final product is. On the plus side, FOX has cut back the episodes and will now combine the results show with the contest shows, meaning we won't get a whole hour's worth of Ryan Seacrest impersonations from the hostess anymore. So that's a plus. I wouldn't be surprised if the show doesn't last the summer. Even for a summer show, the ratings are tremendously bad. I have a feeling that the majority of the show's viewers have posted in this thread.
Other than the fact that that's incorrect, you're absolutely right. The guy from Kentucky or somewhere in the south did the Ghetta Room short. The guy from Canyon did Lucky Penny (and it was definitely shot in Canyon, too). http://www.thelot.com/contestants/view/?id=17
Yup. You are right. I just checked out the site. I'm not sure why I confused the two. BTW, just checked his BIO. He's a Tech grad, so I'm going to go for him as well, for obvious reasons.
Anyone still watching this show? My dvr is backed up with shows I haven't seen. I read in Entertainment Weekly that this show is in trouble and no one is watching. Apparently they dumped the original host and "six of the 24 filmmakers disappeared from the May 28 episode without explanation".
Still watching but am just going to record the episodes from now on. That format change was pretty obvious and I'm surprised it was never addressed. Hate the stupid american idol way they are doing it right now because they stretch every single thing out forever! Last episode, which I DVR'ed took me only 30 mins to watch by forwarding all the stupid dramatic pauses before they announce anything
the host of the show is still looking great that's about the only reason ill watch it for a few minutes
I was under the impression from the article I read that they got rid of that host. Is it another female?
They've had the same host, Adrianna Costa, since they went to the American Idol-type format. Chelsea Handler was the host before they went to the live shows. I don't understand this show, by the way. None of the contestants have made a new film since they went to the live format. So the contestants haven't even been given a chance to learn from what the judges say... or to learn from the other people in the contest. These films were made months ago. I wonder what the contestants do all week in the "On The Lot" house since they're apparently not making films.
Who knows, just kick back I suppose. Show's very odd but I'll keep watching, since I already started and there is zero on during the summer
