Hollins has his supporters and his detractors. If Avery Johnson decided that he wanted to coach the grizzlies, many fans would kick hollins to the curb, because they crave a playoff savvy coach. They don't respect hollins as an Xs and Os guy. I am not one of those. I value the respect the players have for hollins and the fact that Hollins has them playing playoff-type defense is a testament to that. The thing I do fault hollins on is the fact that he hasn't been able to meld the talents of Rudy and OJ into a duo on the court. It is common knowledge among many of us that OJ and Rudy's games aren't complimentary. I attribute, as well as a lot of grizzlies fans, to hollins. So, on the one hand, hollins is great but he has his flaws.
A lot of posters already said it however replace Adelman with Hollins in your posts and you'd still be saying accurate stuff. I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing to be so linked to Memphis lol. Anyway thank you so much for the input, very few people watch Grizzly games so its nice to hear about this.
I'm surprised there aren't many people saying to send him in a basket to Dream's doorsteps. People used to say that on any center that lacks skills.
I've always considered Hollins an average to below-average coach. I don't even watch the Grizzlies full-time and I figured out last year that Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo didn't mesh. At first, I thought Mayo would surpass Gay. Now it's clear the Grizzlies need to cut bait with the guy and he needs a fresh start.
Sadly, he's already been there and still seems to lack skills. Hakeem Olajuwon Works Out Kobe Bryant & Hasheem Thabeet By Aron Phillips It’s not every day that you get Hakeem Olajuwon, one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players to work you out, but that’s exactly what happened this past weekend in Houston for Kobe Bryant and Hasheem Thabeet. Check out the Hall of Fame center – who Kobe said is “the best (at the) mid-post and post move” – helping the guys out in the paint. http://dimemag.com/2009/09/hakeem-olajuwon-works-out-kobe-bryant-hasheem-thabeet/ <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="video" width="480" height="400" data="http://www.myfoxhouston.com/video/videoplayer.swf"><param
That's exactly what a lot of people in our camp believes too. OJ is the odd man out, and we nearly dealt him off a couple of hours ago to prove it. The only people who still fans of OJ in memphis are the guys like Memphis X for example who continually berate management for not turning him into a point guard. It really isn't a good situation anymore for either OJ or the team because after this latest debacle he has no doubt that he is no longer in the grizzlies long term plans. Until till now he was trying to play the good teammate role. I doubt that will continue. OJ is a lame duck in memphis.
I remember the Rockets being pretty high on Thabeet before the draft. They even told him that even if they aren't able to draft him, they'll be looking to get him down the road. Then again, seeing how hard Morey went after Asik, they're not completely sold on him either.
He has no love for the game. That's the freaking problem. How can you be an athletic 7 foot 3 guy and not be dominant?
That is easy. Can't rebound, can't catch the ball, too skinny, too clumsy, poor footwork, ect. Fortunately for UH, Hakeem was a hard worker, fast learner, and had great footwork and hands from his days as a soccer player and goalie. It takes more than being tall to be good. Being tall just makes things a bit easier for you.
thats a reason why I want to give the guy a chance a season with min 20min per game playing time I've never seen him play, but how bad can he be at 7'3 I mean he's tall and some shots will be reflected, enough to have 3-4 buckets less in our basket
No Thabeet needs consistent work from Hakeem, Mutombo and the Rockets staff. We also need to see how he is going to be in Houston period.
I watch the grizz alot and this is pretty much on point. What i hope happens is they get him back to the minutes and level he was at last seasons end. 5ppg 6rebs 2blks,21mins. If adelman cant or wont play him 20 mins a night, they need to send him to the d-league. Thats why I wouldve traded miller if possible for thabeet.
haha! you are the king man! in all seriousness. thabeet's defensive ability reminds me alot of yao's offensive ability. it will take some time to refine and cultivate, but I am going to enjoy the ride...
