It is only a "tendency" inasmuch as people have a tendency to indoctrinate others to feel more secure in their own ideologies. If you mean that people gravitate towards security, I would agree - but that is independent (albeit hardly dissociated from) collectivism.
I guess I won't make my post about learning everything I needed to know about evil from The Fifth Element. I'll add, however, that as horrifying as this incident is, these things happen everyday, all over the world, in one form or another. Insanity knows no boundaries, and poor judgement picking a boyfriend has happened to girls from time out of mind. (ask my wife) Is the guy evil? I'm agnostic, but if evil were to exist, I'm sure this fellow fits the description. D&D. Far too much Evil.
Evil is subjective as a word. but the word fits a spectrum of your subjective language. Is there any word outside that spectrum that you think is beyond evil. no...not really. the point is that evil is not just a word it is something we all know without a language....subjective as it might be. I say no. The boy is not evil...he was overwhelmed by evil...consumed by it. whether you agree with me or not...now my question to this D&D group of serious thinkers is: should we kill him As I said in my first post, if the father killed him, he would lose his freedom but we would all forgive him. If we as a society kills him, who can forgive us? Evil? haha
pgabriel, is my post the first about this Texas A&M girl? I wrote what I did for myself. I'm currently working on my own understanding of forgiveness. I later chose to post it here assuming that the story was already being talked about. A lot of people are still talking about this as a means to make a point about themselves or about society, and so am I. I do also feel like it is lack of respect to her and her family to continue the discussion. But regardless, evil and forgiveness can come in and out of all of us. What can we do, but learn from it.
I'm against capitol punishment. Innocent people get put to death. It happens. If it happens to one person, that would be too much. Having said that, if a loved one... someone close to me, my wife, my daughter, for example... were murdered, I would do the person responsible myself, if I could get to them, were I convinced of who had done it. Sure, it doesn't make any sense. I admit that. D&D. Brutal World.
I think there are different types of evil There's the evil that seizes you for a moment and destroys your life (and maybe that of another). Then there's the intentional solicitation of evil that takes planning and desire and usually manifests itself overtly over time as the soul becomes corrupted.
I did, but then promptly went out of town. I still am (out of town), being able to pop in here for just a little bit, until I get back to Austin. It's a quandary. I'm not enough of a hypocrite to say I'd be happy if the perp got life. If I could get to the fellow, I would. Would it make me feel better? Of course not. What could? D&D. Brutal World.
speaking of which, I'm soooo disappointed in all of you D&D guys to not correct my title...it's not Voltaire who I meant....it is Montaigne. I so blanked on that one, too. where is rimbaud when I need him....
I know, but be patient. A war with evil will have to wait in line. We have our enemies crime, poverty and terror to deal with first.
and Global Warming, too. not to mention screwing dead deer. but don't we have Batman around to help us "Idiots" with these things...er, no, actually, I guess Jorge pwned him in his signature. it is so sad. who is going to fight Evil around here after Batman got pwned? let me think...i'll get back to you, ok?
hold on a second. I just thought of something. can't we just build a wall to take out your 3 things. then we'll have all the resources to fight Evil, no?
I think Batman killed Evil by mistake in issue 45, but comic book characters have a way of coming back to life.
Are you saying Evil is a comic book character who won't die? I don't know...that sounds a wee bit too Holllywood for Idaho to me.
To take this on another tangent has anyone considered that we might need evil? How would we understand good if there wasn't evil or if you look at it from a Taoist perspective would good even exist if there wasn't evil?
IMO to an extent alot of evil is the world .. . is there because we allow it alot of evil is in the world. . because good people do nothing Rocket River
