Maybe, either that or they are just a laughably terrible judge of NBA talent. It's really impossible to say for sure.
OP is simply an Israeli (Like yours truely, actually) but an over enthusiastic patriot in his case... Casspi IS a huge surprise so far for most of us CFs (I can pride myself of foreseeing this, to some extent), and he may prove to be a great rotation contributor in an NBA contender! Maybe even a starter! Moreover- this year there's a real plausible scenario that he may even get to wear a first ever NBA championship ring on an Israeli finger... who knows? But an all star??? Not really. Not yet, anyway. It will take a combination of awsome late blooming (Ryan Anderson/Nowitzki style) with a lot of interested votes (Israelis and Jews) to get him there in the future...
Yeah I thought there could be some kind of bias like that. Honestly it's better that he's just an overzealous patriot than the alternative. I can accept bias blinding a person to reality, it's hard to accept that someone could be that blind without that bias.
As a Casspi fan I can't see him as a starter, I mean in his first year in the league few commentator predicted that he can be an all-star in the future of his career because he did showed sparks in his rookie season, but then came the fading in his career, he hit the rookie wall and from there he consistently struggled and disappointed his fans, his coach and most importantly himself.... Casspi made a very wise decision when he signed with the Rockets, I hope it will be his turning point to finally redeem and revive his stats from his first season as an NBA player, thus far he displayed very decent performance for the Rockets and showed he is very efficient he also seems more varied in his offense, seems like it's easier for him to create his own shot, thing he couldn't do in Cleveland and Sac-town, he can also penetrate to the hoop and finish with the easy laying, I think it will be really useful for him in nights when his three-point shots are off. The reason why Casspi would probably never be an all-star is the fact that he is inconsistent, one night he can look great and produce points grab rebounds and be the best hustle player on the team and in the next night he can be totally terrible, getting out rebounded and lose balls, he doesn't have this star talent to be an all-star, Casspi has the mentality of a backup player, someone to come off the bench with the second unit and get the job done for his team, this is where he is very comfortable with. Casspi really seemed to find a new home, I don't need Casspi to be an all-star, all I want from Casspi is to have a decent season and to contribute to the team and also be a reliable player in his team, that's all, the rest will come afterwards, if he is meant to be an all-star he will be an all-star sooner or later, but for now I need him to focus on what he can bring to the table so his team will rise.
Even if ALL THE THINGS were to go right for Casspi, I still can't imagine him becoming an all-star. He has a very nice motor, which helps his game considerably, but aside from that he just doesn't possess neither the physical tools, nor the skills required to become an all star calibre force. He is basically a SF with a very inconsistent and streaky 3pt shooting, who can't really create his own shot, isn't much of a defender, below average ball handling, average passing, average rebounding, below average athlete and is already in his prime. So yeah, I don't think that's ever gonna happen. If he were to play on a trash team like the Suns, I'd imagine his absolute ceiling would be something like 14pts, 6reb a game? That is if everything goes right and he is being force-fed those minutes. Being optimistic about a player is alright, no need to be delusional though.
Let the OP be enthusiastic at least he isn't running him down like a lot of fans do some of our other players.
Wrong tree, Bobby... Bark elsewhere... 11 points in 19 minutes. Solid. Leading Rocket scorer. Solid. No TOs. Solid. 0 of 3 beyond the arc tonight ? True. Exactly the same as Garcia and Parsons, our best 3pt snipers IMHO. Not an all-star, but nothing wrong with his performance tonight.
11 points on 4 or 5 shots? Great, 11 points on 6 or 7 shots? Alright. 11 points on 7 or 8 points? Decent. 11 points on 9 or 10 shots? Not good.
Ah, a classic thread. Every time we have a promising bench player, there's always someone on the board who thinks they will be an all-star.. funny enough we've have about 7 of these 'all star potential' players in the last 4 seasons and none of them were ever all stars lol
Kobe will not retire until he has Mariah Carey sing a tribute for him during halftime of the all star game.
Well Bobby, i must agree that it's good that you want But Mc'hale and Morey want other things. For them, Omri Casspi is an all around player. He can shoot the ball from ouside, or slash inside to the rim. he can shoot fade away shots. He hustles in defence and ofence. and beside as a SF, he is the best rebound taker and even as a PF, he is one of the better. and more than that, the team have a great chemistry. Of course he is not an "all star" caliber just yet, but judging his current performances, either a secured starting lineup spot, or an important rotational player that playing a lot, it's for the benefit of the team. Every player(what so ever) Judged by his abilities, in a certain time and by the team chemistry. till now, the team shaped up really good. but we will see... as i have said, the prophecy been given to the fools
Come-on man. Where were you in the other games? Casspi vs Pelicans: 2-3 from three (67%). Casspi vs Pacers: 2-5 from three (40%). Casspi vs Pacers: 2-4 from three (50%). Casspi vs Magic: 2-7 from three (28%). Casspi vs Mavs: 1-4 from three (25%). Casspi vs Spurs: 4-8 from three (50%). Casspi vs Griz': 0-3 from three (0%). Overall: 13-34 from three (38%). Delfino was 37.5% last year, so Casspi isn't that bad by comparing.
As Jabber said, you are barking at the wrong tree. I agree with you that anointing Casspi as a future allstar is ridiculous, at least at this point in his career, but you post is reactionary and taking things out of context. 0/3 for 3? Not good, but extremely small sample size. I didn't hear you complaining when he hit four consecutive threes the previous night. And that whole points per shot stat is extremely flawed, because when a player gets fouled and earns 2 points from the line, they get these two points on "zero" shot attempts, so that stat heavily favors players who go to the line a lot. Omri shot 50% from the field, which is good. You can criticize him for not getting to the line more, but presenting it as if he somehow had a poor shooting performance is off the mark.
Helllllo .... I am Casspi fan but All-Star ??? No way Jose. Casspi is good as 6th man and that's it. End of discussion! p.s The season has not started yet
Very impressed with his play. All star game is a popularity contest - I doubt he wins one of those spots, and frankly it would take a miracle for him to be good enough to be picked by coaches. Most improved player is a possibility. I can see him being the starter and putting up good numbers. One area he needs to improve is he needs to look for the pass a bit more often. He seems very trigger happy for his role, when I can see him being a good passer into the post. Great pickup by Morey, and great effort from Casspi.
