All I know is according to insiders (and the results) we were caught with our pants down once. I just can't get over the fact that our head coach can't draw up a game-plan. This isn't the NFL were the coach has to delegate both sides of the ball.
Houston has an elite defense. That is impossible to argue with. Houston runs a modified version of the R&R, the du jour offense in the NBA. And McHale installed it before most coaches. We all have to trust Morey. If McHale does not, Morey will install a defensive coordinator back up. You can rest easy. Morey after all, hires five of McHale's assistant coaches.
Dmo could be great if it wasn't for foul trouble and some bone head mistakes. Imagine a great skilled post threat 6th man off the bench when our team is healthy. He could be like someone else on a championship Celtics team .... Nevermind I was dreaming.
Are you aware that options 2,4, and 5 are injured and replaced by d league talent and we only have 1 starter from last year playing right now If we are winning right now based on talent, are you at least gonna give credit to Mchale for developing Canaan, dmo, black, papa and reviving jets career?
Actually you are exactly right. But the jury is still out on D-Mo. It is a short list of names of bigs in the NBA who can play excellent defense against centers and power forwards. And D-Mo is getting better with the fouls. He wants to be successful and I believe that leads him to attempt impossible defensive plays early in the game. Hopefully he grows out of it.
I think he is well on his way.... he never really got the touches before with Howard and Asik ahead of him. I'm just glad he is developing for us and not for some other western team. He is a viable 1/2nd option right now. If he got the touches Howard is getting, he would be doing Duncan numbers. Hell, he can even score on double-teams! I think he learned more from Hakeem than Howard.
We need Jones to get healthy soon. The longer he is out the closer we get to an impasse of needing to trade for big man depth versus waiting to see how our current bigs fit together in a rotation. I'm super excited about the potential Dmo/Dwight/Jones rotation. 3 bigs with the skills of ours do not come together very often. All 3 of them are above average passers ;if Jones can keep up his defensive start, then they are also excellent defenders. Jones and Dmo both have stud upside and seem to be turning the corner this season. If Jones comes back healthy i think they can develop the chemistry to become one of the best big rotations in the nba. Right now ( again dependent on Jones health) they can all have 30 + minutes a game. Instead of picking up a big to fill in the occasional minutes due to foul trouble we can play small with papa, ariza, or james at the 4. Its not ideal, but it would only be for a few minutes. Those 3 players are going to be better than any big we can salvage in a trade without having to give up significant assets. As for all the talk of dmo in the post vs dwight... I do think that dmo has a smoother post game, but neither of their post games is elite yet. Dmo's really has a shot to become top notch. Dwight is the BEST garbage man in the game. His athleticism, size, and strength make him unstoppable. The best offensive game he played this year was against san antonio and he was playing that role. If we are going to win a championship everyone is going to have to shelve their ego's and play a roll from time to time. I'm not saying he should never get a post up, but forcing it into the post can clearly disrupt our offense and lead to turnovers. Dwight is at his absolute best when he focuses on D and runs PnR/ dirty work on offense. Dmo and Jones will continue to grow defensively and increase their confidence, at least one of them will become a respectable 3 point shooter and create space. Both are also fully capable of driving to the hoop and finding others. Our offense is not always in sync, but the potential is there. When players are moving off ball, all of our bigs are way more effective. They all understand the game fairly well and are very highly skilled. On defense we are becoming nightmarish for other teams. Dmo plays exceptional positional defense and has enough strength to contest some shots, he is also solid covering pick and roll. Jones is a strong weak side defender who has really nice hands and can come up with some steals. Dwight is incredible I'm not going to elaborate for him. Finally they are all great rebounders or at least are great in boxing out and enabling other teammates to get the ball. We need jones healthy and we need dmo to keep it up ( which i believe he will ) Man i'm truly excited to see us get healthy.
This is the crux of our disagreement or why we view things differently....you view cannon, DMo and papa is d-league talent. No need to discuss further.
reading 101 i clearly implied.canaan dmo and black are dleaque talent not.papa unless you dont know how to read or think hes a starter how long did dmo and canaan stay in the dleague? where in the draft were they picked.up?
I know where cannon and DMo have played and where they were drafted. There are probably 3 or 4 bigs that I believe are more talented than DMo coming off the bench in today's NBA. Cannon is not a D-league talent. Again we still disagree about the skill on our roster.
we are not 12-4, 1st in defense, and 3rd in the west just because of the talent.of this starting 5 jet/canaan, harden, ariza, dmo, black. you have to give at least some credit to where its.due.
Wow 0:46 to 0:54 where he fakes Scola out of his socks... twice. If he could get the same consistency on his post moves as Scola did, a reliable mid range jumper, plus DMo's insane passing, we could see a superstar PF/C.
they played him some but they very rarely utilized him right.they tried to convert him into a stretch 4 when he was clearly a back to the paint center.Classic example of bad coaching and lack of vision. He has far more low post potential then Dwight both as a passer and scorer.Dwight should be used almost exclusively in the pick and roll and occasionally in the post against those teams who do not have adequate big men to defend him.
Any sane person (and I'm sure Morey is) would make sure all future contracts with assistant coaches require the consent of the employer to be released close to the postseason. I'm sure this has been rectified.
