C'mon, Andy. I said "no" and look how I turned out.

Just say no. And remember, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

    Seriously Faos,

I actually address all of your points and that is all you can come back with? I totally understand being sucked into the propaganda, I was too at one point. There was a point in my life (when I was new to recovery and just becoming a drug abuse counselor) when I was as rabid a prohibitionist as Walters. However, when I looked at the facts and evidence, I could not come to a conclusion that supported prohibition.

Please, look at the facts objectively, we are talking about future generations of children that could find it between difficult and impossible to acquire drugs in the first place. It can happen, but people like you will need to look at the evidence in order for that to happen.

Yet you are turning your back on millions of children who can now get ahold of illegal drugs more easily than alcohol.

And I would contend that you are wasting your mind by willfully ignoring the facts and evidence regarding prohibition.

out of curiosity, how long did it take to go from recovery to counselor? I only ask because there was a similar plot line on the TV show Queer As Folk, where a recurring character in season 1 was a serious Meth addict and when he re-appeared in season 3 he was a drug counselor at the same rehab clinic. I would guess in the timeline of the show that his departure and return was 1 to 1.5 years apart and many fans of the show felt that wasn't enough time to make a realistic transition.

I quit using when I was 17. When I started college, I explored psychology and at 19, took a job as a psychiatric technician on an adolescent chemical dependency unit and a year later, started my classes at UH for my CADAC (which has since been renamed to Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or LCDC). I took all of my classes while working for a couple of different recovery programs and became active as a Counselor's Aide for the Palmer Drug Abuse Program. I finished my course work for my CADAC and did my internship on a gay and lesbian chemical dependency unit at 22, with over 5 years sobriety. It was during that internship that I decided that I could do far more good counseling people outside of the hospital setting as many of the programs that I had seen to that point were based more on the insurance one had rather than the issues they had to work out.

Add that to the fact that most LCDCs max out at 35K and I was ready to get into IT.
