I always thought the ending of the third movie was a reference to christ, with neo giving his life to save zion or w/e, then they allude to his resurrection in the final scene (where the oracle and architect are talking)? Haven't seen that movie in a while so I might be off... btw I'm not religious or anything that was just my take.

It's more about the balance of the universe, which probably sounds weird to you guys. Like I said, I know Neo is a guy but calling the situation masculine versus feminine is like dark and light, yin and yang, good and evil.

If you think about it logically, females have to yield to a male. Think about sex, if the female doesn't yield, it's rape. It's always guys chasing after girls before they finally give the green light, not usually the other way around. The guy ask the girl to get married.

The common thread is that female has to accept (and let's not be silly and bring up stuff like arrainged marraiges). Like I said, I said it sounds weird since Neo is obviously male but like the sperm/egg relationship, he allowed one of the many to merge with him, which ultimately caused the process of life to continue.

Sure there's a basic explanation which is that since Neo was attached to the Mainframe and allowed himself to be copied and deleted as a sacrifice but The Matrix series was full of layers of symbolism.

There was definitely a dropoff. For example, what was up with that rave scene while Neo and Trinity did the deed? That was such a waste of time.

That said, there was still more than enough there that the average person probably doesn't care enough to look into. There's the basic explanations (i.e. the basic plot) but when you dig into the layers of symbolism and connections to other theological, mythological, etc... ideas it's extremely deep, so deep they had to leave some stuff out in order to avoid the movies being too long.

i to this day have never seen the matrix. not because i dont want to, but because im picky about watching movies out of order. I wasnt into it when it first hit, then everyone talked about it, and i just never got around to watch it. Going to download the blu ray set of all the movies sometime this week and watch them.

You should. The sequels get a lot of crap but I actually enjoy it as a trilogy.
1 is the most complete and enjoyable but 2 had some badass action scenes/visuals. 3rd was just a tie-up to the story and was slightly boring compared to the other 2 but still okay.

Once again....you're stretching it way too far with the whole "females have to yield to males" and "feminism vs. masculinity" stuff. That is no way what they intended.

Now...if you wanna talk about balance of the universe and good vs. evil, THEN I'm board with ya.

Any lover of films owes it to themselves to watch at least the first movie. The original Matrix was one of the most groundbreaking movies in quite a long time, and truly is a classic. Holds itself up to MANY re-watches.

Now...I still loved the 2nd and 3rd movies, though I definitely can't deny the dropoff, but I'd still recommend watching them.

Once again though....absolutely necessary to watch the first one.

No it's actually a metaphor for CF.

It states that someday a pre-2002'er will be re awakened to bring an end to the war between the old users (which have inhabited this part of the internet for ages but who are now being driven into the shadows) and the trolls, who harvest this board's resources for their own ends.

At the end of the war, he will have sacrificed himself by being banned. But his legacy will live on.

Essentially he'll be like DD, but who goes HAM on LOF's

That it is it in a nutshell. Or to put it in another way the Wachowskis crammed a lot of philosophical ideas into a messy story that they needed to wrap up.

I don't fault the Wachowskis for trying to bring in some very interesting ideas and fusing Judeo Christian with Buddhist Vedic concepts but the execution in the last two movies was just sloppy. I mean what was the whole point of the Indian program couple and their cute kid program? Why was Neo stuck in the train station when not hooked up to the Matrix? How could Neo dematerialize Hunter Seekers in the real world? There was a lot of stuff that just didn't make sense.

While on the subject my biggest peeve about The Matrix genre was the whole idea of using humans as a power source and having a Matrix in the first place. Yes human metabolism generates energy but it takes more energy to keep humans alive than you will get out of just the metabolic activity. Add on top of that running a vast complex program of the matrix also takes up a lot of power. Plus you have the problem of your power source having free will leading to inevitable revolts. The machines could've easily just built nuclear power stations, launched solar collectors into orbit, or if they really wanted to use bio generated power just used bacteria cultures or if they need mammals they could've just had a cows. A cow matrix would've been much easier to run and wouldn't have had the pesky problem of free will to deal with in the equations.

Caltex, you're looking at this too simplistically. The third movie is a metaphor for Hollywood and its weak attempt to be intellectual. In fact, you reading meaningless symbols into it is exactly what they are critiquing. Wachowski purposefully made a ****ty movie but disguised it as some higher form of art. Look at all the Hollywood cliches it uses: annoying kid soldier over eager to fight, stupid deus ex machina with Neo (dude, this is an anagram for "one" by the way? Insanely complicated!) using his magic powers when he's not supposed to to stop the machines at the last second etc. in fact, the only bit of symbolism occurred when Neo got his eyes burned out. Here, Wachowski was relating with the audience, as we too wanted to burn our eyes out after watching him take a massive dump on the franchise. Look deeper Caltex. The movie is totally meta. Stop being a sheep and free your mind.
