NHL - yes, but they usually call themselves Stanley Cup champions I think.
MLB - yes, for example the 26 time world champion New York Yankees
NFL - no, Super Bowl Champions

Fame =Money in most cases and their is a better chance to increase fame in Olympics. Wade and James stand to can more endorsements if they win Gold in the Olympics and shine.

As for whether the WC is greater than Olympics that is strictly FIBA's desired opinion. Of course they would say that because it's their game. They both are important but most every country in the World takes more pride in Olympic Gold.

This is not to minimize the WC's value. It is certainly important and the winner recieves it's accolades as the best in the world, deservedly so. And certainly noone believes that players are not giving their all in both events. That's just ludicrous.

It's a competition at the highest level and the pride and honor to win the WC's is just as strong as the Olympics when you are there. But the fame associated with the WC's Gold is not of the same magnitude as Olympic Gold.

In the end they are both birds of a different feather and no need to compare but rather admire the champions of each as champions for thier time.

I would much prefer the US not even qualify for the WC and the Olympics and the Rockets win the title than the US destroying the international competition and the Rockets not winning the title. So, I guess for me at least, the NBA is more important than the Olympics.

Would they gain more fame (therefore more endorsement money, and perhaps fatter contracts in the future) by winning and shining in the Olympics or in the NBA title? I'd say the latter.

Yes, but is very different sports, in soccer they dont appreciate the olympics like basketball does.

In places outside of the US, (at least here in Mexico) they only mention the "Dream Team" when the olympics are coming, right now they are no news about the USA team or another team.

And in the olympics they dont talk a lot about soccer, like they does in a WC.

No. World champıonshıps were barred for NBA players and were technıcaly for amateurs only (even though many teams - except for the US - had non-nba pros playıng for them) untıl 1994 (thats why many tımes non-US teams won - you thınk Yugoslavıa or Russıa would have won WC golds over a US team featurıng prıme Wılt Chamberlın, Oscar Robertson, or Bıll Russell? Those would have made the 1992 Dream Team games look lıke naıl bıters.)
