But while the Games have been a huge success, there is a legitimate possibility that China's legacy from Beijing '08 will be that of a massive government cover-up, not the magical Opening Ceremony or the transformation of Beijing or anything else positive. _____
stripping someone of a medal for being underage would be exactly like stripping someone of a medal for testing positive for steroids. cheating is cheating.
Cheating is only awesome if you win and you get away with it. If the gymnastics team can't get away with it because they couldn't bury the documents deep enough, then they deserve to have their medals taken away. But if they can get away with it OJ style, well kudos to them. "If there's hair on the lip, you must acquit!"
Fixed. Kinda sad, but then, it's not the girls' fault. The coaches should be very ashamed... and will probably be the scape goats, knowing full well that a larger government hand was in this matter.
http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/gymnastics/news/story?id=3547713 Looks like the investigation is over. Nothing to see!
Yep, governments can forge documents....HOORAY for computers !!! They cheated, everyone in the world knows it..... Now time to move on. DD
The only precedents involve the athlete coming out and admitting to wrongdoing or an investigation by the athlete's government. Not gonna happen!
I think the rule is stupid and should be removed. If the a person is good enough at 14 then they should get to compete. I hate arbitrary rules that only penalize people for something out of their control. Most female gymnast are past their prime once they turn 18, so someone who is 15 and 19 years old during olympic years is totally screwed.
Isn't the rule there so girls wouldn't train as hard, thus having more injuries at an early age? And hey, if there was no limit and most of the girls end up being kids, I wouldn't be able to gawk at the barely legal chicks on the high beam!
I know Shawn didn't if reports on NBC were true. They wanted her to have a normal life and she was caught working out extra days and was scolded from her coaches. I think she had a healthy balance. The rule was put in place to protect the kiddos. And honestly I don't mind if there's an age limit or not. I just want the rules to be followed.
Nah, not good enough for me. Even makes me more upset that the pansy-ass IOC president chooses to lecture Usain Bolt for "excessive celebrating" while ignoring institutionalized cheating. What a p***y. This article sums it up perfectly.
Well, you know the IOC is toothless when their 9 year long investigation into the Roy Jones Jr scandal concluded that nothing wrong had happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsgY99FtWsU
