I'd sign him for a bag of chips. But seriously he's one of the worst big men of all time. Not to mention he was the first pick of the draft.
That was definitely uncalled for. If you don't agree with someone don't agree, even be hard. But don't talk about their family. That's unacceptable!
Totally, thanks for getting my back, OMR -- I am NOT getting married anytime soon. Screw anyone you want, but don't screw with my head that way.
"What's going on here! Honey, how could you? "I tried to resist, but the Kandi man is just so sweet!"
Thanks for making it abundantly clear that you've never watched Olowokandi play. You're talking about a guy that gets consistently outshined by Mark Madsen. If you'd seen him in action for any prolonged period of time we wouldn't be having this conversation. His play speaks for itself. And for the record, it wasn't our money that signed Cato and MoT. Yet everyone I know is upset that we signed them. Funny how that works.
Just to clarify where I stand with Olowokandi, I don't like the guy. I've seen him play plenty. I know his offense consists exclusively of missed jump hooks. In fact there have even been inside/running jokes between myself and friends over the years. I know he's got a bad attitude and I know he doesn't produce, but that's how bad I feel our options are right now for a backup center. Hopefully Haryasz can display the ability to hold down that spot, but if we signed Kandi Man to the least possible amount and just took a look at him in training camp, I'd rather do that than just roll with what we've got. Can Haryasz do it? Maybe, but probably not. That worries me. That's why I said it would be nice to have Kandi, but that's only if he pans out...just enough.
The Kandiman! No thanks... Got to watch him in plenty of games as a Clipper and the guy just plain sucks! We would be better off leaving him off the roster! Maybe sign him in the 6 games we will play against the Heat and Shaq (2 regular and 4 finals...we will sweep in 4!) so we can use his fouls! Other than that... no thanks! Next in line....
For the minimum, I would definitely sign Kandi man IF and ONLY IF we have no other options, ie: all our big man prospects turn out to be bigger busts that Ryan Bowen. By that time, our opportunity cost of acquiring him will be 0, and hopefully Mutombo can teach him to be a decent defender, and hence a decent backup to throw into the rotation for a few minutes. Big men are hard to come by these days, and especially cheap ones, so I think we should look into all NBA ready big men and then pick and choose from then, (as oppose to not looking into them and loosing the benefits they would potentially provide us). and oh yeah, my first post, its great to be part of clutchfans after 2 years!!!
What's crazy about posts like this, is that you read them, check the dude's profile and realize ... yikes, you're almost 25, and you still type like this?
I'd pass on this guy, even for the minimum. I'd rather go to camp with the players we have now, and try to maybe work out a trade later for a decent big man. Pass on Olowokandi!
I read your original post again. Just can't see what set off this guy. you were even that hash on the kandi man... Hey maybe it's his agent
The Suns wanted to see him so bad Kandi had to pay his own expenses. They really must want him. I'll say this for the guy, he's humble. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns//articles/0913olowokandi0913.html Olowokandi pays own way for Suns tryout Paul Coro The Arizona Republic Sept. 13, 2006 12:00 AM Sean Marks, the center drafted 43 picks after Michael Olowokandi in 1998, has a guaranteed spot with the Suns. Olowokandi paid his way to Phoenix just to get a look from them Tuesday. The former top pick is a free agent, one of the few NBA regulars still unsigned. But even at 7 feet, he is a long shot to join a team with 13 guaranteed deals. Olowokandi's past of on-court underachievement, getting stun-gunned by Minneapolis police (he was acquitted) and health problems (he said he feels 21 again) don't help. advertisement "They have a very good team as it stands," he said. "I definitely did show more of an interest in this team than other teams because, at this stage of my career, it's not so much about dollars anymore but being able to compete." The Suns will add one player on a make-good contract for camp but it will likely be a summer league player or another rookie - like this week's visitor, Steven Smith, an undrafted 6-8 forward from LaSalle. Olowokandi planned to play in the Suns' informal games again today. "It's very rare for a player of his quality to be willing to come into this environment," Suns Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin said. "On the surface, you could say he offers us some length."
For a vet minimum contract, who do you prefer; Cato or Kandi? I'd be happy with either but I think I'd prefer Kandi. Offensively, he's actually better than Cato (hell, I'm better than Cato offensively ). Kandi is younger than Cato too. Both Cato and Kandi are career underacheivers ...only difference is Kandi was a #1 pick so people hate him cause he never touched his potential. People never had real high expectations for Cato so he flys under the radar. Sorta like Juwan, another guy that was touted as a big name but turned out mediocre so people hate him for that and that alone. If Juwan was always paid MLE $$$ then people wouldn't hate him so much.
Uh, Archibald's career high is 6 points for a SINGLE game. Kandi's career PPG is almost 9 ...not stellar but that comparison is a bit dramatic. Career: Kandi: 8.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.4 bpg Age: 30 Cato: 5.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1,2 bpg Age: 31 Regardless of Kandi's lack of production, he's still marginally better than Cato. So for the same $$$, I'd take Kandi over Cato (health questions being equal).
