He had a pretty mean rap album and don't forget about his movie either. The funniest was how much Jack Madden? hated Dream he used to always either T Dream up or give him the most ticky-tack fouls. ------------------ ``We need to FOCASS".... Akeem Olajuwon
Especially if they are Nigerian. "They" hate that. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
I watched the decisive game 5 against the Lakers in 1986 for the first time recently (evil step-father grounded me from watching the Rockets in the playoffs that year..I will find him and kill him one day for that). A number of things impressed me. Hakeem was such a force. I like the power game he had back then and you can really notice how incredibly fast he was back then. As to the topic, I was almost as impressed by the quick ass-whupping he gave Mitch Kupchak. If Maurice Lucas and the ref had not restrained him, Kupchak would not be the GM of the Lakers today, he would be their towel boy who gets to wash Shaq's SUV. As it was Hakeem landed three shots in about .45 of a second and they weren't typical basketball wussy punches. Hakeem Trinidad? -Elvis! ------------------
I think Hakeem would have whipped Vernon's *** in no time. Vernon is mean, but Hakeem was Akeem. So, young Hakeem was just a mean athletic guy ? ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
If that's the punch that I remember him throwing, then I believe the announcers(Bill Worrell, maybe?) said that it looked like it came out of Nigeria. How'd someone like to get hit by one of those long arms after he winds it up? ------------------
The Billy Paultz succer punch in the 85 play offs is still one of the funniest things I have ever seen! The young Akeem was not to be messed with. Does any one remember a story about Akeem whopping his younger brother in the parking garage of the summit after a game because his brother had flunked a test? Now thats intense. ------------------
He was very quick to anger. This whole "pacifist" thing Hakeem's got going wasn't something Akeem was known for. ------------------ NBA Draft Lottery is May 20th. Start praying now.
1600 posts doesnt make you untouchable.. lol compared to jeff.. you are just starting out ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Hakeem was a bad-a$$ for years. Your lucky he didn't get to you, heypee. The Cougars were far from extinct back then! (Guy V Lewis should be in the Hall. ) What the hell was racist???
Around late 84 early 85 I was underage but used to sneak into a club called Animal House over on Kuykehndahl (sp?) off 1960 ... I saw Hakeem in this place one night and bought him a drink, vodka and oj .. It was in a taller glass and he finished it in one swig..True story
Dream used to live right off of 1960 in Champions Forest. We used to drive by his house. He had HUGE black gates With "H" on one gate and "O" on the other one. The house was surrounded by a brick wall. He used to visit all the clubs in the 1960 area. There used to be a club called "Raizins" (I think thats how it was spelled) I saw him in there with Allen Leavell one time. He politely signed autographs for everyone (Dream did, Leavell was a rookie and no one knew who he was).
Yea I remember seeing players in Raizins too ..I couldn't remember the name of the place though..Cool place, it was always packed with babes
You want to know something about that fight? That was during Hakeem's downturn in his career. He "lost" that fight and McDyes (the new kid) held his own. He wouldn't back down to Hakeem (he was not awed, per say). I thought that fight was telling. I can't remember if that was in 1996 or 97 (Denver or Phoenix). Think that was the last fight/scuffle that Hakeem had the rest of his carreer.
