Of the guys you listed, how many games have they played hakeem at their primes? they are either too told or too young when hakeem was at his prime...Only david robinson I see on that list...

I agree that a player's greatness can only be based on the era they played in. Do you really think Wilt could score 100pts today? Never!!!! Ryan could pitch 6 no-hitters in this era with all the pumped up hitters?
Things change with the times. Styles, rules, enviornments, etc...
BTW- If Jordan does come out of retirement, I believe it could diminish his greatness. Why come back? What does he have to prove? The only thing he can do is fail. It's not like the Wizards are going to go anywhere with him. Him and Barkley shouldn't embaress themselves and the league by coming back. Let the great new players enjoy their time. We have Shaq, Kobe, Vince, Francis, etc....
    What next, Larry Bird????

Actually, if the Rockets had taken Jordan with the #1 pick, IMO Jordan would be ringless like Malone right about now.

Think about it: If the Rockets pick Jordan at #1, then the Blazers take Center Akeem Olajuwon out of UH, NOT Sam Bowie.

    G-Porter
    G-Drexler/Ainge
    F-Buck Williams
    F-Jerome Kersey/Cliff Robinson
    C-Hakeem Olajuwon/Duckworth

-That sure looks like a dynasty to me. And yes, Akeem was rated higher than Bowie, so the Blazers would have taken him.

-The Comets may have been the only champion in Houston if the Rockets had taken Jordan.

Who's to say Dream would be half the player he turned out to be with all those guys around him?

He benefited from being the best player on his team for so long.

Actually the scenario I would have prefered would have had the Rockets drafting Clyde Drexler instead of Rodney McRay in 83. Then We could have still had Hakeem in 84. If Ralph would have remainded healthy and John Lucas would have stayed clean then here is our line up:

    John Lucas
    Clyde Drexler
    Robert Reed
    Ralph Sampson
    Hakeem Olajuwan

I would take that line up into any season. Man its fun to Dream!

Actually I think Dream was born to be the great player is was. He would have been great on any team with any players.

The only what-if I think about is what if Jordan was still playing those 2 years we won...

That Hakeem/Jordan matchup would have been one for the ages.

Dream was still good the following season, when Dream and Jordan were healthy and playing well.

And we saw who won then.

I think the results of Bulls vs. Rockets would have more to do with supporting casts than Dream and Jordan. We all know they were both great, but who would have stepped up more Kukoc or Horry?, Sam or Steve/BJ/Ron,
