The Rockets have had a b**** of a time getting big acquisitions. Clyde. Charles. Scottie. Steve Francis. Shandon Anderson. Mo Taylor. Eddie Griffin. When does school start again?

Not too surprising, but the Sporting News Raptors report claims that Dream has his list down to two teams: Houston and Toronto. The Raptors are also interested in Rockets free agent center Hakeem Olajuwon and had coach Lenny Wilkens pay a recruiting visit to the aging veteran in Houston earlier this week. Team sources suggest Olajuwon has narrowed his possibilities down to just the Raptors and Rockets. The 7-footer would be a perfect fit in Toronto, which still has some cap room to play with along with the $4.5 million midlevel cap exception. His addition would allow Davis to move back to his more familiar power forward spot and Olajuwon would be a solid antidote for the East's better centers, primarily Dikembe Mutombo in Philadelphia and Miami's Alonzo Mourning. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Achebe, the rockets had to trade impact players for Charles & Clyde, Pippen is not even worth talking about, We traded half of our bench for Francis (which was definately worth it, Grizzlies are still scratching their heads on that one), Shandon signed for cheap to play with Pippen, Barkley & Hakeem (did not happen the way Shandon wanted), Mo came here, ONLY, for more money when Hakeem retired last year (That did not happen either). So if we make another big acquistion, via trade, we will have to give up several of our young players (griffin, morris, norris, mo, langhi,etc...). I would rather DUMP Hakeem, if he does not except a one year contract, and work on landing a big center this year (or next). ------------------
The only place I've seen a report of the suppposed counter offer of 20 mil over 2 years with a 3rd year option is bskball.com. The major services say Fegan and Hakeem are unavailable for comment. What is the source for bskball.com's story? ------------------
Consider the source. When someone else besides BskBall reports this, let me know. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! The Mo Taylor Fan Site
I wouldn't call the Rockets superb at every position. People constantly complain about Cuttino's shot selection and defense, people question Francis defense, people wonder if Dream will last the season, Griffin is unproven, and people complain about Maurice Taylor's rebounding. I don't agree, but it's funny that people are suddenly saying the Rockets are superb at those positions when it comes to signing Dream. Speaking of Dream, Dream is a nice option WHEN HE TRIES! Funny how he turned it on the 2nd half of the season in a contract year. That's what worries me! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited July 19, 2001).]
I hope you are right CAT, I just cannot see CD offering that much for multiple years. It reminds me of DR, the spurs wanted to sign him to a 7.5 million contract (not chump change), resign DA and add another free agent to get back to the finals. Now they lost AJ, have taken a risk on loosing DA. and will not even be as talented as they were last year, when LA destroyed them!! We should all be thankful that our (other) FA's have not bolted to greener pastures. ------------------

Robinson went for about 2 million above what they thought. So? They still have room to sign Derek Anderson and either Bruce Bowen or Mitch Richmond, and Stephen Jackson will probably sign for the minimum. Robinson didn't hurt them, just like Hakeem won't hurt us... ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! The Mo Taylor Fan Site
Once I remembered that little head bob thing that Webber does when he runs , and saw that GMs were spreading the rumor that "he refused to guard Shaq" on the insider report that day... I had to honor Mo's good side(s). He shoots better from the outside than Webber does... and that's all Webber wants to do anyway. Mo's also young and can grow w/ this team. He does seem like an enthusiastic puppy. He, unlike Cato, actually wants to do well... not only for his teammates (which is great), and not only for his salary (which is great), but it seems to me that the guy respects himself. He will learn. Plus, Griffin makes up for his poor rebounding. Dream will too. ------------------ Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen...
So Cat are you in favor of a 2 year guaranteed contract in the 20 million dollar range (if that is Hakeems bottom line). or would you rather take a chance on Marc Jackson, or a sign & trade deal with Toronoto for one of their centers (as some have mentioned) ------------------

HEB, you're correct. Don't forget that Webber will make $123 million. No single Rocket has ever make that kind of money. Mo Taylor will get like a 3 yr. $21 million deal. Sounds like a bargain to me. Remember how Webber was tanking it against the Lakers? . ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Until we hear it from a reputable source, don't worry about that deal. CD is not going to make that type of offer. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! The Mo Taylor Fan Site
2 years 20 mill would be a cave by CD/RT, which I can't see happening. Since the only way that Dream would be able to sign for Toronto straight would be to lose Alvin Williams, which I can't see happening, they'd have to be looking at the MCE, or via S/T. But, if it's just MCE, you know Cuban and several other veteran teams would be all over that. Another sign and trade thought, would you take on Eric Montross (4 years totalling 11.36 mill left, the last year being 3.2 mill) with Keon Clark for Hakeem if Toronto wouldn't give up Clark alone? ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
We don't know this! Please show me the quote where he respects himself. We have no way of knowing that, so how could we know that "he will learn." hehe....sorry Achebe I just had to use Freak logic once, to question someone giving props to a Rocket, since his MO is to do the reverse and question someone bashing a Rocket. hehe. Actually, I agree with you.
tell us little barbourdoggie what Centers are more sound than Dream. Tell us how you'd just as soon scrap this season for some geologic time scale potential win for next year. Tell us what FA centers you might be able to get in for a conversation next year. The intuition "it takes time" is a myth put out by teams that have to sooth their ticket bases' anger when the team has made bad decisions in the past. You should try to compete every single year possible. Anything can happen, anything oftentimes does happen. The Charlotte Hornets rebuilt, IMO, in 1.5 years. The Magic rebuilt over a period of two summers. The Rockets are superb at every position except for Center. They don't need to wait. They need a cog at the five spot. Dream is the best center on the market. The same will be true next year. And he's one hell of a cog. barbourdoggie, tell us again how you'd waste one of Steve Francis' years by putting him in a position to lose this year. Tell us how he'd take it on the chin. Tell us how management doesn't have a responsibility to put the best team on the floor to both the fans and to the team itself. Take your punctuated gradualistic wannabe GM theories and shove 'em. All is not lost barbourdoggie. I'll let you touch my posts when Dream helps the Rockets get into the playoffs this year.
Brilliant post Achebe... but I just happened to run across something: The Rockets are superb at every position except for Center. Is this Achebe saying the Rockets are superb at power forward, where we have Mo Taylor? ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. If he likes Toronto, let's send him there. Let's do a nice fancy sign-&-trade and get the player that we really need. One problem, Toronto doesn't have anyone we need. Let's see, who has someone we need. Perhaps Denver. Maybe Hakeem ends up in Toronto, Chris Childs, Kelvin Cato, and N'Diaye end up in Denver. And a little known player named Lafrentz ends up in pj's. I say that Hakeem made the mistake of showing interest in another team and that means that we can now trade his ass without being crucifed by the press. Just a thought.... ------------------
