This wasn't how it should have ended, he should have been in the playoffs, shaking opposing centers to and fro while the Rockets made another miracle playoff run. 34. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
link to awesome 17 minute press conference coverage: http://play.rbn.com/?swave/espn/demand/video/nba/010313rockets.rm if it doesn't work the link is on the espn nba page highlight: Rudy calls that latest stretch of ball (i'm assuming since the knicks game) one that he "enjoyed as much as anytime in my career," specifically referring to the interaction between the veteran and the young guys. pretty awesome. ------------------

I have loved the Dream for years. He is and always will be my most favorite sports hero ever. I hope you get well and fully recover. I hope you are willing and able to play next year, and hopefully with the Rockets.
Hey guys, he ain't dead yet. And he ain't gonna die. Heroes never die... Best-case, he spends 6 months on anticoagulant treatment, and he recovers. Another 2 months rehab/physical training, and he could conceivably come back to NBA form. 8 months means he misses the beginning of the season - he will NOT be signed by the Rox during the offseason. But it is not impossible that by the time he is healthy again, we have a team consisting of Steve, Cat, Shandon, Webber, and Cato... He could sign again, given we don't go over cap, during the first half of next season. And I think he would want to finish his career this way: can anyone deny that a Steve/Cat/Shandon/Webber/Olajuwan team would be a SERIOUS contender? He just wants another ring, and that team could get it for him. Maybe he'd play for free on that team Well, a guy can DREAM, can't he? (clutching at straws...) ------------------
I remember Hakeem when he was first playing with "Phi Slamma Jamma". His shot blocking and rebounding back then were things of beauty. It even made this 'ol Baylor Bear almost root for the 'Coogs !! I remember 1994 when he won the NBA MVP trophy. As he accepted the trophy, he said (to the effect of): "Basketball is a team sport. I would not have been able to win this trophy tonight if it weren't for the help and support of my teammantes and coaches. That is why I want for my them to stand with me along with my trophy". That was far and away the COOLEST thing I have ever heard an athlete say! Yes, I remember his blocked shots, his slam dunks, his Dream Shakes, his impossible fadeaway shots, his rebounding, his laughter... But all of us will remember a true warrior... a true champion...a true man!! Now, with all that said, a little prayer to the Almighty for his continued good health is certainly in order!! And for the Dream to come back and play basketball if possible. AMEN!! (and we love you, man!!) HAKEEM OLAJUWON #34 -- "ALWAYS ON TOP"!!
He'll always be number one in my book. The best player to ever grace the court...... ------------------ "Wahooo"-homer I'm not only a fan but I'm also the bartender at clutchcity chat For the last time I'm not Tybrave!!!!!
nooooo... I can't believe I may have just lost my chance to see Dream's last game as a Rocket..... ------------------ Proud Member of whatever Clutch City club is currently the most popular and/or controversial.
the feelings i have right now was the same feelings i had when stockton hit that three pointer against the rockets in the western conference finals. this is not good news.... ------------------
yes, very true, when stockton hit that shot I didn't make any movements whatsoever for about 20 minutes, when I heard this, I felt like crying, unbelievable, My favorite athlete, the man, the Dream, damn, just get well, you'll always be remembered.. #34 ------------------ against all odds
Please, oh please let there be no long term implications for Hakeem's health. #34 ------------------ Maybe all the rulers are wrong. Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
Even with this great win, its a sad day. Hakeem leaves as the best ever. Thanks for all the memories. I am so glad you are a Rocket. ------------------ "Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen" -Hudson
34. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
how do you post an image on here? I've got a cartoon that sums up my feelings of olajuwon's possibly career ending injury... ------------------ "I hate every ape I see - from chimpan-a to chimpanzee. No, you'll never make a monkey out of me." - From the 'Planet of the Apes' musical on the Simpsons
What ever happens the Rockets should give Dream a season ball for jump starting the Rockets season during the second half against New York earlier this year. With out Dream I believe the Rockets would have lost that game and been out of the play off race long ago. Thanks Dream! ------------------
Wow it just hit me that this might really be it. I can't believe it's going to end this way. ------------------ You cannot stop Moochie Norris, you can only hope to contain him.
Man, I'm so disappointed for Dream's sake. He was making such a great comeback to his old form and having fun again. Thank you bcdjad for reminding me about that MVP trophy presentation. I've been remembering all the stellar things he's done on the court but that stands out as a moment when he showed the kind of class that has set him apart from so many other great athletes. Always giving credit to those around him. ------------------
