I think JVG is a great man and a great coach but if there is one thing I hated about him it was that he brought Ewing to Houston. I probably attended 15 games while Ewing was an assistant coach here and you could count on two things from him during games: 1. he gave no input to anyone. not the coaching staff or the players. 2. he had his eye on the jumbotron and the power dancers most of the time. Considering the somewhat recent history this team had with the Knicks and Ewing being one of the main problems I hated seeing him on our bench. My brother had a job where he ran into Ewing a handful of times and (knowing nothing of Ewing and very little of pro basketball) told me the guy was a complete d#ck. I'm guessing he was nicer to the strippers and federal prosecutors.
Yes, some of us did. It was clearly done deliberately by the Lakers. Thank god we won anyway, the bastards. Anyone else notice Fitch tell Rudy to escort Dream into the locker room?
i'm just curious - how much can we attribute his teaching (if any) to yao's and now howard's improvements? from what i've read, not much to yao's other than playing against each other in practice (do does deke). but is howard's improvement somewhat related to ewing or no?
Love the referee's zealous tackle on Hakeem. Reminds me of the referee in the football game in the beer commercial who sacks the quarterback for a free beer.
As a big guy, they test u. Either u stand up and whip some ass or the they treat u like a punk. Its no different than the schoolyard.
Does anybody have the video of Olajuwan and I think it was with Antonio Mcdyce. The funny thing was they were both throwing punches but none of them were landing its like they were both shadow boxing with each other.
this reminds me of when sasha took a swipe at rafer, then rafer pointed the finger and the ref ran and pushed him back i guess refs have mad love for the lakers over the rockets ...or they know the rockets would kill them if they got in a fight
After the lakers blew out the Rockets in Game 1, Sports Illustrated ran an article basically calling the series for the lakers. I still have it. Everyone (or at least all of us old farts) remembers Sampson's shot in Game 5, but the fact is that, had that shot not happened, the Rockets would have easily closed the series out in Game 6. Us beating the lakers was not as much as an upset as a lot of people remember. We had the better team that year and we were pretty unbeatable at home.
Not to mention that the game was tied. If Sampson misses, we still win in overtime, because, you know, the Laker's weren't the same without Kupchak.
except for the fact that hakeem wasnt even going after the ref or even looking at him....yeah that counts as being "owned"
and if the nba got caught in a really slow news cylcle, all we would hear about is how thuggish these players are today and what bad example this sets for "the kids"
Ralph Sampson looked pretty nervous also, It doesn't matter, that's history act, something beautiful, something that all Rockets fans must know, class act 4-1 against Jabbar, Kupchak and overall great L.A. team. Too bad we couldn't get a championship that year...
