I am almost 100% sure that the league has declared that suspensions regarding fouls committed during regular season games will be applied for the next year regular season.

This means that IF Okur is suspended he will more likely be suspended for next year´s regular season and NOT this year´s playoffs.

Looked pretty euro-sneaky and blatant to me. Unless he confused his face for the ball...

Yea you really can't say that. He suspended Dirk vs. us in a pretty big middle of season game, I mean Stern knows the value of Houston (CHINA), so there is no way he wants Houston to lose.

How does he not get suspended for this:

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rIIz9ZeP1O8&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rIIz9ZeP1O8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Pretty clear hit to the head of Oberto.

Had that hit happened with Obierto in the air, and created a situation where he could have been seriously hurt, it would be a suspension.

Sure it hurt, but it wasn't going to injure him, despite his soccer dive and General Hospital acting drama.

Maybe it was an intentional cheap shot, but it wasn't as obviously intentional as you keep trying to insist. If they had faced off and Okur hauled off and whacked him, that would be a suspension. This was in the middle of game play and there is going to be reasonable doubt as to his intentions. Okur could argue that he was slapping for the ball, expecting Obierto to bring it up high. Dubious, but plausible.

Worse stuff happens game in and game out.

so he slapped obierto's face because he expected that the ball will be brought from the knees up high to the face?

I can undestand if Obierto has started bringing up the ball up to his chest but it was way below his waist..

that was clearly an intentional cheapshot whether obierto was really hurt or exxagerated.. intentianl cheapshots have started brawls before..

As I kept trying to make clear, I don't necc believe it myself. But he knocked him all the way from behind. Had he been facing Obierto and brained him, he's suspended 10 times out of 10. Had he struck him like he did but with Obierto up in the air, he gets suspended.

As much as we "know" exactly what happened, this isn't something that gets an automatic suspension. It's the same as when a player throws a cheap shot elbow while securing a rebound. How many dirty plays did Bowen get away with before finally getting a suspension?

Sure, this was dirty. But he got his flagrant. It didn't warrant a suspension.

I say this as a guy that thinks Okur is a slimeball.

i don't care if we're actually better off without him being suspended, this should absolutely have been a suspension.

oh well, the league has ruled otherwise. so let's start sf3 just to let him hit williams exactly like this on the very first play and be ejected, and then sub in bobby jackson.

Looking at the replay Obierto had the ball up and brought it down quick. Okur was standing behind him and swung at the ball high where he had it. Not anything intentional in my opinion but really ill-advised since he was behind Obierto and probably would have been called for a reaching foul even if he made contact with the ball.

Doubtful any suspension will come from that play.

Okur is an SOB. The refs should have suspended him.

There is a rule that hitting a player above the shoulders is an auto suspension, and this one here, he was clearly NOT going for the ball.

This should've been a game at least.

That only applies to an elbow. And even in that case it's an automatic ejection with the possible imposition of a suspension.

LOL really? So Melo should've gotten off scott free for slapping Mardy Collins in the face?

I don't remember a specific in the rule that says elbows only.

Well, the only rules I find that specifically reference fouls "above the shoudlers" are elbow fouls.

I don't understand why the Jazz are allowed to play the most physical out of all the teams in the NBA and continuously get away with it... if they're allowed to be that physical, don't call their flops [end rant]

back on topic... I don't care if that hit was unintentional or not, the NBA has to protect its players. That's a free swing. Dirk's foul on AK-47 was unintentional but he was suspended for a game because it was potentially very harmful. This should apply to Okur. By not suspending players on plays like this, this lets players push the envelope even further for future plays.

Yao in the past gets the worst of these non-calls. Players always diving at his feet and swiping at him (see scratches on his arms). If the refs don't call this crap, players continue to do it, and it is likely to get worse...

Unbelievable that he didn't get at least a game.
