Why is Iowa State the only game that matters? Why not look at the rest of the schedule where OSU beat much better teams. Look at 2008. Texas had one loss, a last second road loss to a top 5 Texas Tech. Florida had one loss, at home, to unranked Ole Miss. Why did no one make this "worse loss" argument then, to create an OU-Texas rematch?
It happened recently, last week! Maybe, maybe if it was a September loss and they have been mauling teams since then, but how can this loss be excused? As I recall that Florida loss was early and they rolled the rest of the way. All Ok State had to do was beat Iowa State. The only reason Bama is not undefeated right now is not having a decent kicker, inexcusable at a big program yes, but apparently Saban has a top recruit lined up for next year. LSU would beat the Cowboys handily, shoot I think Georgia would beat them too. Again all my opinion.
Those were 40+ yard kicks. That is no giveme for college kickers. They have played 3 teams with winning records.
I'm not sure what the recruit lined up for next year has to do with anything - if they have a crappy kicker this year, that's a weakness of this year's team. And the same is true for Oklahoma State - they missed a game winning kick in their game as well. And "all Ok State had to do was beat Iowa State" is not true. Unlike Alabama, who very few good teams and lost to one of them, OSU had to beat many more good teams to have their shot. They simply had a much more difficult schedule than Alabama. Alabama has the better loss; OSU has the better wins. It's not as clear cut as "Iowa State". Very possible - but isn't the point to find out? We already know that LSU beat Alabama at home.
Okie State has the better overall resume and is more deserving of playing LSU. Alabama is the only chance for a competitive game, though. The SEC as a whole may be overrated, but Bama and LSU are far and away better than anybody else in the country. And I don't care how many points West Virginia and OOregonput up on LSU, those games weren't even remotely competitive. Okie State will be exactly the same, they'll rack up some yards between the 20s, but touchdowns will be hard to come by for them and LSU's power running game will wear the Cowboys out. If OSU gets in like they should, most of y'all will turn it off midway through the 3rd.
Extra game in primetime where the voters can see them & 44 pt thrashing of a top 10 team while Alabama is off. I'd say OK ST has it.
Here's the USA Today poll: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm Okie State made up some good ground there and is right around where I thought they needed to be. If they do the same in the Harris Poll, I think it could be close - but they might fall one computer short. The highest and lowest computer rankings are ignored, so being #3 in one poll is no big deal - but being behind in that 2nd poll might just eliminate them.
Complete garbage if it is Bama/LSU. This season reminds me a lot of the 2006 Ohio State season. OSU went undefeated, and barely beat number 2 Michigan. There was serious discussion as to whether Michigan and OSU should play for the NC title. In the end, since Michigan did not win their conference they did not go onto the title game and instead OSU played Florida. Florida came in and smoked Ohio State. Flashfoward to today and now it is Bama/LSU. Bama did not win their conference and they should not be in the title game. OkSt deserves the title game, and I expect them to light up LSU.
Michigan got beat up in the Rose Bowl as well that year. It's the perfect example of group think in action when people decide a conference is the best without actually seeing the results on the field.
The computers will likely be split 3-3. If OKST can get up to 5 computer rankings at #2 they might have a chance to overtake Alabama.
2 computers already have Alabama at #2. Most likely, it will be 4-2 in favor of OSU, which translates to 3-1 once you eliminate the bottom and top rankings. AP poll actually looks GREAT for OSU - unfortunately, that poll isn't used. If the Harris rankings are the same as AP, it might just be enough. If the Harris rankings are like the coaches, it probably won't be.
Harris poll, to maintain suspense, doesn't come out until the BCS rankings. So we won't know anything until then. But these guys ran the numbers and it doesn't look good: http://www.bcsknowhow.com/oklahoma-state-and-alabama-bcs-title-game-scenarios If The Cat is right about the Wolff poll having Alabama at #2 (the Wolff site still has last week's poll), then OSU would actually need to jump Alabama in the Harris poll, which is highly unlikely. If 5 computers can get OSU to #2, then it's a bit more possible with a close 3rd in the Harris poll.
There are more college football fans who want to see a different matchup. Bama vs. LSU already happened. Bama lost. Get over it. You don't deserve a rematch. LSU shouldn't have to beat Bama twice to get the MNC.
what happens every year? sec teams lose conference games? like happens in every other conference? should we just not count them because they're against sec teams? and what do you mean "keep punishing" them. is there some trend of this happening? there has been an sec team in every title game for 5 years and might be 2 this year. i didn't notice florida get punished in 2006 for losing to auburn. i didn't notice lsu get punished in 2007 for losing 2 TIMES to sec teams. i didn't notice florida get punished in 2008 for losing a home game to freakin' ole miss (but the tebow speech, you have to let them in, that's much more important than Texas actually winning big games and actually losing a tough one). that's 4 losses for 5 sec title teams, meaning these teams were hardly the stuff of legend, and they still got in just fine. in fact, the only sec team to ever get punished was undefeated auburn in 2004. apparently losing an sec game and proving the depth of the conference is almost better than winning them all.
Get over it? Lol You might not think we deserve a rematch....but nobody really gives a **** what you think. Get over it. If the voters think OSU deserves it....so be it. Go LSU. If not, the two best teams in the nation will play again.
How do you know Bama is the 2nd best team in the nation? All we know is that they're not as good as LSU. OK St. could be better than both. We don't know for sure since they're in different conferences and play different opponents. That's why OK St. should have their shot against LSU.
