I'll be honest: I really think Alabama should be the #2 team based on overall talent and depth. But if you simply look at the FACTS, we have beaten better teams and in our wins, we have played more than good enough defense to win. Our defensive talent is better than the stats suggest (our average Dline and MLB limits what we can do defensively).
Alabama: Kent State(5-7)(W 48-7) @(23)Penn State(9-3)(W 27-11) North Texas(5-7)(W 41-0) (14)Arkansas(10-2)(W 38-14) @(12)Florida(6-6)(W 38-10) Vanderbilt(6-6)(W 34-0) @Mississippi(2-10)(W 52-7) Tennessee(5-7)(W 37-6) (1)LSU(13-0)(L 6-9) @Mississippi State(6-6)(W 24-7) Georgia Southern(10-2)(W 45-21) @Auburn(7-5)(W 42-14) Oklahoma State: Louisiana-Lafayette(8-4)(W 61-34) Arizona(4-8)(W 37-14) @Tulsa(8-4)(W 59-33) @(8)Texas A&M(6-6)(W 30-29) Kansas(2-10)(W 70-28) @(22) Texas(7-5)(W 38-26) @Missouri(7-5)(W 45-24) Baylor(9-3)(W 59-24) (17) Kansas State(10-2)(W 52-45) @Texas Tech(5-7)(W 66-6) @Iowa State(6-6)(L 31-37) (13) Oklahoma(9-3)(W 44-10)
Also, if I hear another mention of the word "eyeball test," I will gouge out my eyes and pour boiling water on my nuggets and set it on fire. That is just complete BS and a clear biased move to push the SEC agenda. I"m not the type that ever bring up media agenda in paranoia, but after this win and seeing what they are still pushing is a clear agenda move.
I think Bama is the better team, but Id like to see LSU vs OSU Bottom line is that OSU blew it against an awful team while Bama lost to the #1 team in OT and had a call (the dual possession INT) that easily could have changed the outcome
I would much rather see OSU/LSU in the NC, but I can't honestly put a team whose 1 loss was to unranked Iowa St. by 6 over a team whose 1 loss was to the the #1 team in the country by 3.
I'm in the OSU camp but... what about Boise? No love just because of a loss to TCU? (Meh, I know there's no way the BCS does Boise any favours). OSU!
as much as i don't want the SEC to have 2 games in the title game, if you told me my life depended on a team beating lsu and i had to pick between osu and alabama, i'd pick alabama. i just think there's more chance they hold lsu's offense down and maybe find a way to score than hoping osu really moves the ball enough against that lsu defense to counter lsu almost certainly being able to move it against osu. and in the previous lsu/alabama game, alabama probably should have won. including OT, they had the ball inside the 35 seven different times and only got 6 points. that's pretty amazing. it was like the 25 yard line had a force field on it for alabama. even when they appeared to complete a pass down to the 1 it turned into a miracle interception for lsu. and while osu has beaten more quality teams than alabama, proving they could maintain their ceiling fairly well, it's not like alabama just squeaked past the weaker teams. they were winning impressively and their D practically didn't let people move the ball. and then unfortunately for osu, there will always be iowa state. it really just makes their floor so low compared to alabama's that it's hard to look at more quality wins for osu and think that overcomes it. so begrudgingly if i'm really picking who i think is the 2nd best team in the country, i'm picking alabama.
Alabama and LSU are the two best teams in the country. If they weren't in the same conference SEC West, they most likely would (and rightfully so) be in a collision course to the BCS Championship. You can't hate on the SEC all you want but you can't keep punishing SEC teams for knocking each other out of contention (which happens every year).
What happens if Bama beats LSU by 3 points? Each team would have lost to each other by the same margin. That means that there's no clear cut champ. It has to be Ok State. Funny how their QB is born in the same year as myself.
incredibly so. remember it wasn't very long ago that Auburn went undefeated and still couldn't make the title game because their schedule was deemed so weak. the SEC is top heavy right now. Alabama hasn't faced the competition Ok St. has this year. and finally.....you do NOT want a situation where 'bama is crowned champion because they won one against LSU after LSU won one against them. that's just ridiculous. if there were a playoff system, of course 'bama should be in....but not in a college football schedule where the regular season is everything. i'd watch an Ok St. - LSU matchup...I have zero interest in rewatching the LSU - 'Bama game....and think it's ridiculous that LSU would have to beat the same team twice to be crowned champ.
Looks like it's going to be Alabama. Two computer polls (Wolfe and Sagarin) are already out - both of which had Alabama ahead of Oklahoma State a week ago - and they still have Alabama ahead today. The case I could see for Oklahoma State was if they scored a decisive computer edge and closed the gap enough in the human polls to overcome. If the computer polls are a wash, human votes would need to favor OSU... and that would take a massive shift. I was thinking last night it was 50/50, but now it seems like 20% at best for OSU.
Ok St. I believe Alabama is the 2nd best team in the country, but they didn't win their conference, and although they have the better loss, they have an easier schedule short of the one game they lost.
Alabama probably is the 2nd best team in the country . . . . . . but I've already seen Alabama-LSU and I believe you should have to win your conference in order to play for the national championship. So I'd rather see OSU.
These are the facts which cannot be refuted. Can the BCS act like the Iowa State loss did not happen? A playoff would be best, but failing that Bama clearly deserves it over OSU, IMO.
Uh.... "that gimmick offense" is a spread offense, which Auburn used to dominate the SEC last year and which Florida used to dominate it prior to that.
