Because it's not just where you stand but how distant you are in votes. Texas was #2 in the polls - but just barely, so it's not that much of a benefit. The difference in the human polls was thus miniscule. The computers simply spit out rankings instead of votes, so being #3 in there vs. #2 is a huge disadvantage (though it's an average of 6 computers, so there are some steps in between 2 and 3).
Here are the BCS standings going into the B12 Title game: http://espn.go.com/ncf/BCSStandings?week=7 You can see all the math there. All those computer ranks flip if Texas has a more difficult OOC, and thus Texas jumps OU. This wasn't a controversial point - everyone agreed on that.
Eh, I see... So UT may have been higher in the Harris poll... and OU in the USA today.. and then OU got the computers.. Ok.. I get it. My fault, lol.. been a long day today. So, the argument is all about why UT doesn't get an SOS such that OU gets? Or am I still confused?
Yeah, I get it now. The part that was controversial was in the Coaches poll of why they (OU) got the higher vote... when Texas had beaten them on a neutral field. That's where they got screwed.
If you've framed schedule like that, I agree. But I don't think OU has scheduled anyone anywhere close to 05-06 Ohio State in that time frame. And I don't think UT has scheduled anyone from 1-AA in that time frame. I could be wrong. I just don't think it's a measurably more "difficult" schedule when you take on the worst programs from bad conferences, as opposed to schools like Rice that don't qualify in your calculus. I understand your point, I do.
Good post. Which is why it sucks that Utah backed out; the computers would have all flipped with a win in that game.
It must be tough staying so classy, with the pain of losing 3 out of 4 to UT (and looking like 4 out of 5 coming up on 10/17), and 3 straight bowl games, along with your star QB. Keep your chin up.
Dude, I'm not an OU fan or alum. Put the pipe down. But thanks for validating my theory that you're a nut.
Definitely. That, or had we made any effort to replace that game with someone else semi-legit. We even had the advantage of knowing who was likely to be good since it was only a year or two away.
I didn't see the game, but does anyone have video of BYU doing the Haka? The picture is all over Foxsports and ESPN, but I want to see a whole video.
