True, but Clutch deserves credit for the Westbrook's "dirty" play on Lin, and now this, both which were big on ESPN.

    How unclassy,
you never seen any Rockets fans want to kill Bill Cartwright when he knocked Dream's eye socket.

It was much more than quoting a tweet. Clutch did connect the dots and researched that the guy was actually a OKC ballboy, which is the only reason this is worthy of a story.

Kid should not be charged with a crime (he was being dumb), but he should never work for the Thunder again. Privilege lost moron.

    Police investigate Thunder ball boy
    Updated: April 27, 2013, 10:16 PM ET
    Associated Press

HOUSTON -- Police are investigating after a ball boy for the Oklahoma City Thunder tweeted death threats to Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley.

Thunder All-Star Russell Westbrook was hurt when Beverley tried for a steal in the second quarter of Game 2 of the teams' Western Conference first-round series and ran into his knee. Westbrook had knee surgery on Saturday and is out for the season.

The tweets were deleted as of Saturday night, but the Houston Chronicle says a tweet from the handle @MitchellBrwn said: "Patrick Beverly (sic), I'm coming to kill you."

He later sent another one with Beverley's Twitter name, saying: "@pavbev21 I'm coming to kill you."

He later apologized in one tweet and then said he was hacked in another post.

Oklahoma City police captain Dexter Nelson tells The Associated Press that their department is working with the Houston police and the NBA to investigate the threats.

The Thunder says in a statement that they "do not condone his comments. He works game nights on a voluntary basis and the matter will be handled internally."

Game 3 was Saturday night in Houston. Security was increased for the game, but it was done because of the Boston Marathon bombings.

This is a good read that sort of explains the policy or view that newspapers (some, anyway) have about not crediting blogs for their news stories.

    http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20090904/0416086107.shtml

First off, this is not a "Dave Hardisty" thing -- it's a "ClutchFans" thing. Doctor Robert found it first and I credited him and expounded on it with a breakdown. Do we expect the AP to say, "According to Doctor Robert of a Houston Rockets message board"? No. It may be true but their credibility is shot with that line. Part of the fault is mine... it should be an article (and not a message board post) with a real author name (not "Clutch").

Secondly, the Houston Chronicle got the story from ClutchFans. Period. They took it farther with quotes, but they got it from here. Let's not even entertain the laughability that they were working on this story already.

Lastly, yeah, it's frustrating to watch the Associated Press, ESPN, Yahoo! pick up the story and credit the Chronicle, but that would still be the case whether the Chronicle made any reference to us or not. The fault is with the Chronicle in not acknowledging it.

Nick Mathews is the Chronicle's sports editor and I haven't spoken to him or Jonathan about it and probably won't, but this is not the first time and probably won't be the last. The most famous instance was probably when the Rockets changed their uniforms in 2003 -- ClutchFans members first discovered that a web vendor had accidentally posted a photo revealing the uniform. So we had a story up on it. The Chronicle followed with the same story and it was on the front page of the print edition, which is whatever, but where it got exposed is when they took the same artwork I had done for it (a Photoshop with all the jerseys overlapping each other).

I probably wouldn't be quite as pissed if it didn't also happen on the same day with the Westbrook-Lin clip we dug up from November (which was hours of work looking for a needle in a haystack, by the way), but again, so long as all of these news outlets can independently verify the information they get from ClutchFans, they'll always cut out the middle man.

Heck, it's on the front page of CNN under THE LATEST- links to this:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...rshadowed-by-reported-death-threats?hpt=hp_t3

Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley allegedly received death threats via Twitter from Oklahoma City Thunder ball boy Mitchell Brown after Game 2, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Thunder star Russell Westbrook suffered a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee in Game 2 when Beverley lunged at him attempting a steal. Some believe the play was dirty.

Brown has since denied tweeting the death threats, saying his account was hacked. Either way, it's an unpleasant turn of events for a young player who has played very well in his postseason debut.

Beverley, selected in the second round of the 2009 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, experienced his first regular-season action in the NBA this season. In 41 regular-season games, he averaged 5.6 points, 2.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds in about 17 minutes per contest.

Despite not scoring in double digits since March 24, he hit that mark in each of his first two postseason games, posting 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in Game 1, and 16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block in Game 2.

In fact, it's ironic that so much negative publicity has surrounded Beverley after Westbrook's injury in Game 2, because that was one of Beverley's best games as a pro and almost led to the Rockets upsetting the Thunder in Oklahoma City.

Unfortunately, this happens way too often in professional sports. Whether you believe Beverley's play was clean or dirty, there is absolutely no excuse for sending someone a death threat like this, especially coming from a team employee. Brown is lucky he wasn't fired by the Thunder after the tweet.

Beverley should feel good about his strong performance in the playoffs. Instead, he has to hear about a ball boy allegedly sending him death threats. For a player who has gone through a lot to finally see the hardwood in the NBA, he doesn't deserve this. In fact, nobody does.

That's the news business. Too bad Clutch didn't get an exclusive interview with the kid - now that is something the Chronicle can't plagiarize!

Well, this could potentially give the chump a Google problem for years. Don't say anything on Twitter you wouldn't say in public, kids... 'cause it IS public.

The fact that the thunder haven't fired this ball boy means that they at least partially support his actions
