the problem is now the streisand effect has taken over and i think there would have been less publicity had they let waiters have #13 in the first place.
Harden is wearing Wilt's number!! OKC did it for wilt! Most likely the case in general - at least right now until OKC makes it back to the finals - seeing anyone wear #13 will just remind more so the fans than anyone else about who they had and the type of player he has blossomed into and that they broke apart a potential dynasty. Whoever does end up wearing that number at least for right now will just be more of a victim than anything. I think once OKC makes it back to the finals then I would imagine that ban being lifted because as of right now they have not being able to get as far in the playoffs without him as they did with him.
People comparing this to nobody wearing Yao's number are way off. Yao was drafted #1 by us - first international player ever to get drafted #1, he was a cultural icon, connected the nba with china in many ways, played for an amazing 8 years here, was and still is a huge part of this organization. We didn't trade him away 3 years after being drafted for ****ing Kmart because we wouldn't pay him. He played out his whole career here until his body broke down.
