You keep saying they are all about winning but they are doing everything but win. But, updawg, they almost won, but if not for that turnover, but .... Gut the team, its got a loser attitude running through it.
Is that what I said? The poster was bemoaning the "fact" that we are not competitive. If you lose four out of your last five games by less than one score, that is by definition competitive.
they did gut it, updawg - on opening day this year, there was a brand new front office, brand new coaching staff, a new offensive system, a new defensive system and 9 new starters that weren't on last year's team; that's nearly half the starting line-up. i think you'd be hard-pressed to name another team that even remotely gutted itself more. they were the worst team in football last year... and you've graciously given them 13 games to turn it around...? i know we'd all rather be gearing up for a playoff run, but the team HAS improved; somewhat dramatically. here are the numbers: offense, 2005 | 2006: overall: 30 | 28 (+) rush: 15 | 24 (-) pass: 30 | 23 (+) defense, 2005 | 2006: overall: 31 | 28 (+) rush: 32 | 21 (+) pass: 24 | 26 (-) winning %, 2005 | 2006 12.5% | 30.7% (+) kubiak hasn't even been on staff a year; show some patience.
the texans didn't welcome a former pro bowler back from injury or sign a the then go be a saints fan, or accept that the texans didn't have a pro bowl running back return to health this year, nor did they sign a pro bowl QB.
let me try that again.... then go be a saints fan, or accept that the texans didn't have a pro bowl running back return to health this year, nor did they sign a pro bowl QB.
my understanding is the saints have like 32 new players on their roster. it's second-hand information, though, ric. i heard it on the radio. i can't remember if it was 32 or 34. i'm pretty sure lance said it on 610. might have been john. i haven't done any follow up research. sooo..you were looking for a team that made more changes last offseason. i think the saints qualify in that discussion.
Some may say "I'm wishing my Daves away" No way? 26 million's the price they paid Some say "Tomorrow's another day" He'll stay He may as well play
wow...that was really clever! now, instead of "walking on the moon" something more like, "wish we had warren moon."
every little thing he does is tragic da doo doo doo...de dah dah dah...damn we suck. it's the same old thing as yesterday don't stand...don't stand so...don't stand there making more freaking excuses, surfer boy. (still working on the rhythm for that one)
seven new starters (2 rookies) by my unofficial count. but they also retained the core group of guys who, in the five seasons prior to 2005's katrina-ravaged season ('04-'00), had gone 8-8, 8-8, 9-7, 7-9, 10-6. but yes, you're right on the saints degree of turnover. regardless, comments like, "Gut the team, its got a loser attitude running through it;" and "i think they have to communicate that they're about making real change this offseason" fly in the face of reality. they've gutted the team; they've made real changes... perhaps i overstated the degree relative to other teams, but that doesn't mean they didn't gut/make real changes. and they've made progress, too.
So your saying that the Texans were doomed from the start so they should get a free pass this year. Also, if I can't accept that, I should root for another team. I hope that secret never gets to ticket buyers, wouldn't be a good sales pitch.
no, what i AM saying is that the team is trying to pull itself out of a giant pit of ****, one, make no mistake about it, they drove themselves into, yes, but a giant pit nonetheless. you have every right to resent them for doing that, of course, but moving forward...? you can either continue b****ing about the last four years or start to look for the bright spots and appreciate what the team is trying to do. and believe it or not, there have been some positives this year. unfortunately, anytime someone tries to point them out, or proactively discuss solutions, it gets eaten alive by a lingering bitterness. so, really, do yourselves a favor, and go root for vince, or the saints, or the cowboys, or whoever, and let us apologists have the team to ourselves so we can blow sunshine up each others' asses. because, while i know it feels good, the b****ing isn't going to change a god damn thing. it's a bad football team that's on the right path to being respectable. my guess is that with another good free agent/draft class, they'll win 7-9 games next year. can you wait that long...? if not, like i said, plenty of other teams are more to your liking....
Ric, I am not seeing all these positives that you are thats why I support larger changes. They made large changes last year with coaches and mgt and that seemed to help drafting(other than the Mario pick). Why not make large changes on the players side this year I'm really trying to be a fan I really am, but they are not making it easy for us in Austin. Hell we are getting Vince's game this week not the texans. I guarantee Mcnair wasn't planning on that when he bought the fanchise. I can't just sit by and blindly support the team no matter how bad it screws up. If theres no hope for improvement then how is it fun to be a fan? You have hope with the status quo, I don't, I need more changes to regain that sense of hope.
the offense was ranked 30th last year; it's 28th this year. the passing game ranked 30th last year; it's 23rd this year. the defense ranked 31st last year; it's 28th this year. the run defense was 32nd last year; it's 21st this year. they won 2 games last year; they've won 4 this year with 3 to play and they were competitive in three of their losses, with 2 being decided on the game's final play. they've lost 6 of 9 starters from the OL/DL (not to mention, domanick davis and jerome mathis), and still made terrific strides. they're 3-3 in games in which their leading rusher tops 63 yards. they've beaten jacksonville twice this year. the 2006 draft class was the best in franchise history. andre johnson leads the league in receptions. williams, weaver, ryans and robinson are a terrific foundation for the defense. they're not the 93 cowboys, but, frankly, if you're not seeing positives, if you're not seeing baby-step improvements, it's because you're choosing not to look.... they did; 9 of the 22 opening day starters weren't on the roster last year; that's nearly half. of the 13 that were, my guess is that quite a few of them will be out of jobs next year. i mean, what did you expect? for them to completely overhaul the roster from top to bottom in a single offseason? there's only so much you can do - you still have to field a team. then my suggestion is to focus on the alamo bowl; it's in two weeks.
