Bad timing!! Their timing could not have been more perfect to wind up with the number one pick. The football team in Houston is a victim of nothing but bad decisions on top of worse decisions. Blind arrogance and the alienation of a fan base will lead them to reap what they sew.
With a healthy offensive line and a good defense.Mr.Carr and the Texans are going to the playoffs next year.
i don't disagree... but they had no way of knowing young was going to be available until very late in the evaluation process. had they put off evaluating carr in hopes young might be available and he wasn't... how would we have felt? they did their due dilligence, dude; it was a product of just rotten timing. hell, if carr's deadline had been may... i think they would have drafted young. but they had to make a decision on him before even the scouting combine...
It's not as if Vince declared a day before the draft or after Carr was extended. Timeline: 1/5/06 - Young wins National Championship 1/8/06 - Young declares himself eligable for NFL Draft 1/22/06 - Kubiak hired 2/10/06 - Carr extended They had more than a month to evaluated the situation. And Kubiak himself had nearly three weeks to address the situation after his hire prior to the Carr extension. Hell, even extending Carr did not preclude them from drafting Vince. It was a terrible mistake, not bad timing. You could have not asked for better timing. They screwed the pooch big time, and that falls right in the front of the line with every other terrible decision and is why they are a terrible franchise.
There are only about 5 teams in the league that Carr could start for. Vikes, Browns, Raiders, Bucs, and Lions.
1. I thought Reeves was brought in to Evaluate Capers and Crapperly 2. the Evaluation of Carr was either 1. wrong or 2. biased 3. I think Carr is here for atleast one more year . . . I doubt he will be traded .. . . I doubt they take the Cap Hit or get Value for him Rocket River Rocket River
you don't make a decision that important in three weeks. the texans did their homework on carr; they were told by everyone that carr would be ok with better coaching and better talent around him - there were A LOT of respected people telling them that. extending carr and then using the first pick on a QB would have been counterproductive.
Ric, they had plenty of time to pick Vince (or whoever they wanted), they simply did not want to. They wanted Carr. Quit making excuses for them. They keep making crap decisions and everyone keeps making excuses. I got an idea, why not try winning a game? Quit giving them a free pass and maybe they will start fielding a competitive team.
1/8/06 - Young Makes it known he wants to play for Houston 1/9/06 - Young Makes it known he wants to play for Houston 1/10/06 - Young Makes it known he wants to play for Houston 1/11/06 - Young Makes it known he wants to play for Houston ....
Really? It sure as hell didn't take more than that for Kubiak to endorse one David Carr. Pretty important (albeit terrible) decision there. And again, it certainly didn't preclude them from taking Vince anyhow. They had the option to extend David for two years but with Kubiak's seal of approval in those near three weeks they had enough confidence to go ahead and take the three year option.
1/6/06 through 4/28/06 - City of Houston pretty much begs its pro football team to draft Vince Young.
I think that Kubiak had enough faith in Carr to use that first pick where he thought they needed it more. Kubiak is confident in his abilities. Only time will tell, whether it worked, but I believe it will. Carr will retire in Houston. I'm sorry that others had to hear this, but you left me no choice. When Carr is inducted into the HOF, he will be asked to reflect on this. Carr will glance at his hair, which will be true perfection, look to the camera and say, "I'm looking pretty damn good now, aren't I, Mr. DaDakota?" Then they'll say, "Mr. Carr... Do you still keep in touch with VY?" and Carr will respond with, "Every once in a while, he calls me. Things just weren't the same when Bud moved the Titans to Alaska.". The announcer nods in agreement that they were soooo close, before the Yukon Young football franchise, sporting their wool-lined jock straps, walked on to the frozen field, responding "Some things look better on paper".
GWB looked like he would live or die with Rumsfeld too. I don't think the Texans would just give Carr away and certainly not if they didn't have something better lined up; better not just different. So he may still be here next year. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept him next year and drafted Kolb in the 2nd. If you gave him away for a 4th (like Harrington) Whose you QB? Rosenfelds? What's he ever done in the NFL? Huard? He's going to get a big contract and Carr's up front money too would be a cap killer (I think, capologist?) Schaub? He's going to cost a contract and a 1st rounder...and he may start in ATL next year if Vick gets dealt.
You mentioned being competitive. That is being competitive. We all know the Texans suck this year. Most of us know that Carr shouldn't be back next year. Most of us know that they probably should've taken VY. They didn't, so it's probably time to move on if you're ever going to enjoy the Texans again. If not, what's the point of even discussing them?
