I've heard (no link, no evidence, just rumor) that we've been talking with the Browns about swapping 1st rounders (plus one of our second day picks) in conjunction with Carr for a backup LB. This is supposedly being done with Peterson in mind. Evan
No me, it's exactly the opposite. The pro-Carr crowd is so invested in him that they keep hoping he will suddenly improve and downplay any other options. The whole idea that "why change the QB? Our line sucks so no one can be successful anyway" line of thinking is an example of this. Why not focus on improving both? Or the "he's basically a rookie" idea. What other QB gets a pass on 5 years in the NFL & 80 games of experience because he wasn't coached? How did he make progress the first 3 years if he had no coaching? Or that a player who has actually had success in the NFL, who's won playoff games, who's made the pro-bowl, who's had success with the very coach people say MIGHT be able to improve Carr, is not any kind of an upgrade over a player who's never had any consistent success in the league? Or holding on to 8 games two and a half years ago to justify that Carr can become a good QB. To me, it simply all sounds like people just WANT to believe the absolute best about Carr, and just downplay everything everyone else does while trying to find every excuse for his play.
there's no difference - they're both products of baseless, irresponsible speculation. after all, hatemavs4life could certainly argue carr not caring is a "possibility" - he doesn't call out teammates; demand change; never seems pissed off enough; is too laid-back on his radio show.... seems to me we have a guy who obviously doesn't care....... viola! one guy's speculation today is another guy's fact tomorrow. i'm personally all for upgrading the position. sage rosenfels, however, is not an upgrade. neither is jake plummer. nor is trading/releasing david carr for the sake of getting rid of him.
Sage? Well the coach didn't think Sage was better or he would of taken his spot by the end of the season. Sage without a backup Carr? Who is our backup? Do I dare ask such things or do I just stock up on tar and feathers? Plummer? Maybe. Maybe not. And at what cost? And how do you know he even will come here instead of somewhere else? It's not close to being a given. So we get rid of Carr for the idea that Plummer might come here? Nothing? There is no way that nothing is better. Just getting rid of him for the sake of doing so will not make you better. This is the same as people calling to get rid of Alston until we saw how he did without him when he got ejected a few games ago. Anyone remember the Juwan Howard hate that was rampant around here for a very good while? What happened? It was fun to hate darn it! Some people are nothing but emotional about this. If people really think nothing is better Carr then he is nothing but a sacrificial goatlamb. Blech.
I think he just might have had he not been injured. At the very least, I think we would have seen a lot more of Sage than we saw before.
The scariest thing I read in these articles about where Carr is headed are the parts where Rick Smith says, "He's still our starting QB."
"now that's the first SANE thing i've heard all day." (I would like to point out, for the record, that Mr. Rocketman95 was the first to mention VY in the context of this discussion, and not me!!!)
What do you want him to say? "We're getting rid of David Carr, trade value be damned? Haters unite!" Plus, I was asking who on here is arguing that Carr should definitely be the starter next year? I think the vast majority of Texans fans, regardless of whether or not they want to put the majority of the blame on Carr or recognize that there's a tiny chance that there are 10 other players on the that side of the ball that also contribute to the success of the offense would like to upgrade the QB position next season.
No. I want him to say what you're saying. He's on our team. He may or may not be the starter. It's the "starting" language...given the history of how this franchise has handled Carr...that scares me. Come on...YOU KNOW I don't think it's ALL Carr's fault. That's a red herring.
I think if a team hears that we don't even consider Carr our starter, why would they give up anything of value for him? But if anyone brings up other problems on the offense, like the crappy O-line or the horrendous running game the first half of the season, a lot of posters were whining about how they were sick of excuses for Carr. That implies something right there. That's my opinion, I don't have to prove it.
1. i really don't think it's a secret to anyone that the texans are uncertain about david carr's future here 2. i'm sick of excuses for carr. i recognize that some of them are legit. but they're not legit to excuse everything. and i will say that i think a lot of carr's problems are as a result of the crap he's gone through here. that's unfortunate, but it is what it is. 3. no, you must prove up your opinions. i demand strict proof.
