this trade has aaron brooks written all over it. it's kind of similar to the pistons handing the reigns to stuckey when they traded billups. now brooks will probably get around 25-30 minutes.

Lowry fits well with the 2nd unit because the 2nd unit does not rely on 3 pt shooting to space the floor for Yao. His good defense will be a great asset for a 2nd unit that normally doesn't play very good defense. Also Cook can improve our end of quarter last possessions, which Morey and Adelman have said are areas we are looking to improve in, by giving us a good 3 pt shooter.

Of course, it's really Aaron Brooks for Rafer Alston as the main trade. Probably will hurt us in the short-term, and help us in the long-term.

I really hated this trade at first and had a hard time understanding what was going on, but as I' m looking at it it makes a little more sense now. Rafer was a bad shooter and I think Adelman and Morey wanted to eventually start Brooks over him. They went into this season looking to trade Rafer. They couldn't find a deal, so they continued to let him start and give Brooks opportunities. When it came time to turn the team over to Brooks, rather than switch their roles, Morey decided to ship Rafer off rather than let him undermine Brooks and risk letting him damage any value he might have this summer. They end up with another bad shooter, but a younger one, at a lower price, and most of the money in the deal will come off the books after the season (a season earlier than if we kept Rafer).

I have to believe that the McGrady situation may have hastened this move, but they ultimately get the type of PG they wanted who may prove to be much better than he was able to show in limited time in Memphis. This is the direction they were going... Tmac's declaration probably just changed the timetable. You could go with Brooks for 30min and Lowry for 18min. Get a look, see how they work out.

I wouldn't rule out the Rockets possibly signing a PG that gets bought out by his team as well.

I've read all the replies, and just don't buy the Brooks looking over his shoulder arguement. These guys are professionals and need to accept whatever role they are given.

I think the bottom line is that the Rockets were determined to GET RID OF RAFER, pretty much no matter what. There must be some underlying reason that is not being publicized. Perhaps his off the court trouble the past two offseasons.

But IMO, this was clearly not a move to improve this team. Especially this season.
