I totally agree about setting up Brooks' mindset. I believe Brooks' slump was mostly a lack of confidence when he was getting yanked quickly if he was unproductive.

Brooks is a guy who likes to roam, you can tell he was second guessing himself more and more to his detriment.

Its not that simple. If you bench Rafer, then you have a malcontent! He is not going to sit there and be happy. The only option was to move him. Rafer doesnt have the personality to take a benching well.

    This is about Brooks

This trade makes all the sense in the world. Rox need penetrating, athletic, players around Yao. Rafer is not. Plus, Rafer takes waaaay too many shots that should go to Yao or Artest.

My wild guess is that there's some issue with Alston in the locker room. Probably involving him, Artest and TMac. Although he appears to be a good guy in front of fans and media, we will never know what he's done behind the scene. So the Rockets decided to move him out for cheap. Don't blame me since it's just a guess.

That's the million dollar question, and it's an unknown. The Rockets apparently believe in Brooks, and I'm cautiously optimistic right now. The strength of this trade really hinges on whether Brooks makes the best of the situation or he flops. He's got a lot riding on him.

I hope you are right. Time will tell if AB can really pick it up and take on the starting position.

I think the reason it happened was because Rafer may have been involved with the chemistry issues in the locker room. They may have seen him as a bad egg. Aaron Brooks is a good guy and they wanted to give him some more time. They figured that they could take a good look at Kyle Lowry. He is at the bottom of the Grizzlies bench because they have a log jam with OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay, Mike Conley and Hakim Warrick. Morey probably saw him sitting at the end of that rotation, knew that he would be somewhat of a low investment and wanted to take a solid look at him. Morey is a smart guy. I was very pleased with his decision to get Aaron Brooks when everyone in this BBS was booing him. We got younger, cut some cap and are looking even better for next year. TMac will be making $23 million next year.

If we sit tight with the team that we have and develop our chemistry, we will be much better when we trade TMac's salary for a solid player to lead our team. CHOOSE to be optimistic. This year was a disappointment to many, but it's definitely not the end. We still have a solid chance to be a great team!

They could get a good look without trading Rafer - just give AB more time; scratching my head on this one

I'm not buying that we are getting Cook, salaries do not match up if the other two players are coming to us that are now being reported in the deal. If we don't get him, the trade looks much better, because we are not stuck with his $3.5 contract next year when he picks up his option.

well I guess it's obvious that the magic got the best out of the deal, Im not to thrilled about losing rafer (a guy who plays alot better w/o T-mac) and overall is a very good floor general, but lowery does have alot of upside, unfortunatly i think we now have 2 PG's that are a defensive liability which doesn't help our struggling def. But Brooks has played well as a starter (how quick we forget)

Even though they may not get PT, I do like us getting Foyle (a big body banger) which is something we are sorely missing. And it will be intresting to see if adelman ever uses cook as a counter to all the fronting and double teams that yao gets. Cook plays PF and has a decent % from 3 he could really help the spacing when teams are locked in on Yao.

We still can get out of the first round.

This is basically an in-house upgrade instead of replacement upgrade. Just depends on your view about Brooks.

Rafer NEVER not ONE single game had EVER come off the bench for the Rockets. Each Rockets game he played was a start. Even with Mike James & Steve Francis around he was a permanent starter. Better to put him in a situation we're his starter's mindset will be valuable, than demote on him the current club and have him pout and have him adjust to off-the-bench mentality.

Cook (are the Rockets getting him or not?) is a floor spacer at the power foward position. Maarty Leunen overseas is pissed now :) He's played spot minutes before at the center position in LA, so he adds a tiny amount of versatility.

Lowry is basically replacing the vacated backup spot with a worse shooting but better defending version of Brooks.

Alston is one of the worst starting point guards in the game... AB is a slight risk but definitely one worth taking because his potential is exponentially higher then Alston's

Rafer wants to play. There's no doubt about that. The Rockets had a chance to give Aaron the spot, give Rafer a chance to play (for a team that really, really needs him), and take in a young, backup PG and they took it.

Honestly, i can't blame them too much for doing it. The only problem I have with Lowry is his shooting. He's worse than Rafer in that area.

My mistake, I looked at the ESPN trade machine and saw that he just had 1 year on his contract. I should have looked further into it.

What kind of option is it?

I think maybe the Rockets are ready to start Brooks, but were worried Alston would pout if he was benched. That, and to save money.
