The history of QB1 has its roots in Houston, actually.

The game is played on a computer during a football game.

When the players set up, you try to predict what they are going to do. You can make it simple, ie. Run or Pass, or you can make it complicated, like run middle or Play Action Pass Back Middle Gamebreaker!!!! (sorry... you get the most points if you can correctly pick that one correctly.)

Anyway, for each set of downs, you get to use what is called a "gamebreaker". It basically doubles the points for a certain play, plus any bonus points you have accumulated.

Bonus points are gained for each consecutive correct call you make.

You are always the offensive team.

That's basically it.

Believe it or not, when the Astrodome was being built, they had a plan to get the fans more involved, hence the original invention of the QB1 game.

Originally, it was going to be on every seat in the Astrodome!

Obviously, it was technically impossible at the time. However, Astrodome U.S.A. copyrighted the idea for later use.

It became technically viable in the 80's, I believe. However, due to the shortness of the football system, they had a lot of Sports bars balking at spending the capital to buy these systems.

The company, NTN, decided it needed something else on the system for bars to use during the off-season.

Then a game called Trivial Pursuit came out, and was a huge success.

NTN figured out they could make a similar trivia program for its little computer machine.

The rest is history. If you go into just about any sports bar, you will see a little trivia game running in the background.

Just remember folks, the trivia game was an ancillary product of the greatness that is QB1.
