The only guy I really payed attention to is Eddie Griffin. And he struggled to say the least. As I mentioned in my other post, I was sitting with Ralph Lawler, Bob Weiss and a friend of theirs. Griffin was the topic of conversation. Griffin started and played about 2 minutes and was yanked and did not come in until the end of the half. Weiss said the coach looked upset and that Griffin must have pissed him off(I really wasn't paying attention to the court at that time, so its straight from what Weiss was saying). When he came back in, he threw up this ugly looking 18 foot from the baseline that went behind the backboard - I dont know if it was blocked or maybe he got fouled, but it was ruled out of bounds off the shot. Then on defense, he got pushed around by Lamont Barnes and Nick Sheppard. Weiss kind of joking, being sarcastic because it was so obvious, said that Griffin needed to work on his post D. This was just the first half - I left at halftime, so hopefully for Griffin(I am a fan of his) he turned things around. But from what I saw, he struggled. This person only saw the first half of the game, so take it for what it's worth. ------------------ matirmama, alabdhabhuumikatva
His very first game as a pro, and he gets to go toe to toe with Lamar Odom, of course he had a few problems. I think its pretty cheap of the Clippers to play Odom in a Summer League game, it defeats the purpose of having a summer league so that rookies can be more acclimated to professional ball. ------------------ It was the time of the preacher, in the year of '01 Now the preachin' is over, and the lessons begun . . .
Hmmm..... this is more of what Alec Walker said: Griffin did not have a bad game. I really was at a loss as to why they took him out. YOU CANNOT FOUL OUT OF A SUMMER GAME! So why the kid gloves. The game before Curry had 6 no big deal. Tyson had 4 in the 1st half but they were not pulled. Eddie was very aggresive defensively and it would not surprise me if he averaged more than 2 blocks a game in his first season. He will swat anyone, including Odom. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
A little trouble scoring and with fouls but at least he can rebound. Hopefully, his next outing will show some improvement. Thanks for the update. ------------------
Does anyone know where I can catch the Rox/Warriors game in LA tomorrow? ------------------ "I can honestly say I feel I guarded the man pretty well, but the guy is playing better than anyone I have seen in a long time" David Robinson on The Dream 95
he gets boards & blocks... damn that's nice. ------------------ "Hakeem gets a 3 with the final shot" - my second favorite moment of 95 finals
I notice that Rudy usually lets his top players, continue playing during scoring slumps. He even encourages them to continue shooting, to give them a chance to play out it. What kind of idiot, pulls your STAR ROOKIE out of his debut game twice (in one half), and makes him sit on the bench, so everybody can gossip that the kid pissed the coach off, and maybe he is a trouble maker? I mean, ****!!! this is the summer league, it does not matter if he has 20 fouls. This is a chance for him to get his first taste of being a Houston Rocket. Do you think Rudy will have some words for his asst coach? (maybe he did at half time, EG did play the whole 2nd half?) Do you think Rudy has already had some words, with him, regarding KT in the hospital? I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH GRIFFIN, pulling down 8 rebounds, 8 points (in basically one half) with 5 blocks (3 waived off). As long as the coach stops pulling him out of the game, I predict he will build up his confidence, and light it up at the Rocky Mountain Revue!!! ------------------

Well, I'm beat. Just sat through the Lakers?Kings, Sonics/Bulls, and Rockets/Clippers. Watching 3 summer league games can be pretty tiresome watching all of the sub-NBA level guys out there! Anyway my interpretation of the day: Most Impressive Player of the Day It had to be Gerald Wallace of the Kings. Sure, his jumper was raw, but man what athleticism and pure warrior-like hustle. He had 23 pts on 9/16 shooting, 8 rebs (4 off.), 3 assists, 1 block. He was all over the floor (literally, often he was mixing it up with the big guys underneath the basket for rebounds). Just a lot of heart, and man those slams... EDDY CURRY REPORT: 18 pts (6/11 shooting, 6/9 FTs), 5 rebs, 1 BS, 1 ST in 32 minutes. Overall, impressive performance, definitely a physical specimen with agility. Has some nice moves in the post. VLAD RAD: 9 pts (4/14 FG, 1/6 3pt, 7 reb, 5 assists, 5 TO's in 38min). His passing was the impressive part of his game, plays unselfishly, definitely a full 6'9''. TYSON C. 4 pts (2/7 FG, 0/2 FT,3 rebs, 2 BS, 2 ST in 20 min). Has a long way to go, often looked lost out there. The Bulls played better with Fizer/Curry. Put in both Curry/Chandler in the 4th for only a couple minutes. EGRIFF: Got 2 early fouls going for block, so sat most of the first half. Man, he will be a shot blocker, very aggressive in the paint, fights for every Def. REB at least. His shot is silky smooth, and despite his 3/11 shooting tonight, you can see that he will score in this league. Had on these weird-looking knee bands? during the game. I'm not sure what they're for, hopefully he has healthy knees. T-MO: Reminded me alot of Sean Elliot actually. Physically and his shot resembled Elliot's as well. I was particulary impressed with his speed, esp. guarding Lamar Odom all night. Egriff actually was not assigned on Odom at all tonight... <P. Anyway I took a bunch of pictures on my Digicam, now once I figure out how to post them here with html, i'll get them on. ------------------
Not to continue from my short review in my other topic, but Griffin looked great tonight. He WILL swat anyone (including one of Odom's attempts) and was very active on the boards. I don't know why he barely played the first half but he played quite well in the second half. But the real star was Dan "the man" Langhi. ------------------

Eddie played solid. Period. Maybe Larry didn't know about the "No Foul Outs"... or maybe Larry was trying to give Eddie game type scenarios. Who knows... Putting Odom in the game was a cheap shot by the Clips. Maybe they thought they couldn't fill the stands (since Miles wasn't playing). And believe me... there was only a handful of people left for the final game of the evening. Looks like the Clippers cheated there way through this one. ------------------ Sattle Sat50.com
I think if zone defense is allowed it means there are no rules about posting. So you can be everywhere... So there're no Illegal Defense. Or not?
The "illegal calls" were 3 seconds in the lane on the defense. That way you cant sit under the basket... no? ------------------ Sattle Sat50.com

I agree with Saddle. Perhaps they took him out because he was making silly fouls and wanted him to know what happens when he does get in foul trouble. ------------------ "Bada Bing!"
