damn, you're really harsh on them. I'm not a big fan since I consider them a myspace band but still....That was ****ing Cool. All the work and a "one take". I've seen these type of "presentations" before. There are TONS of them on youtube.
Totally disagree with your take on the video. Besides, the Honda commercial just ripped off Peter Fischli and David Weiss. They even got sued and copped to ripping it off and had to pay up. The treadmill video was highly original, especially considering their shoestring budget. Likewise, this is one of the best Goldberg machines I've seen. They shot it on a low budget, and I loved that they used so many thrift and secondhand items. The sheer variety of objects used was incredible. This wasn't the usual wheels, strings, and ramps machine. I personally like their music. It's fun to kind of have in the background. Not great, but solid. They are best known for their videos, and I think they'd be the first to admit it. However, there are thousands of bands that wished they could put together the viral videos these guys do and get half the attention. Kudos to them.
I think I remember people complaining about the same things with either early Foo Fighters or Weezer videos, how they were just about making fun to watch music, and they eventually stopped. OK GO may be a bit too polished on their music but I'm glad they didnt stop making enjoyable videos. Better than hum drum abstracts from other groups.
All I have to say is: Get, get, get, get, get over it! Seriously though, I remember hearing this song on the radio all the time when it first came out: <object width="480" height="332"><param name="movie" value="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x1ovp5"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x1ovp5" width="480" height="332" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></embed></object><br /><b><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ovp5_ok-go-get-over-it-video_music">Ok Go- Get over it video</a></b><br /><i>Uploaded by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/psychobabble">psychobabble</a>. - <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/us/channel/music">Watch more music videos, in HD!</a></i>
hahahahater... I didn't see a suspended guitar in the air with hanging spoons which then play musical glasses at different tones... that's just one of the original and creative aspects of the video. not to mention, all Rube Goldberg devices are similar by nature but unique in their execution...
