Wow, Favors + couple picks is way way better than Mayo + Knicks players. I'm unimpressed. If Denver can even entertain receiving Mayo as the 'young player with potential' then Aaron Brooks will work just fine as well.

Even so, I'm not keen on winning the Anthony sweepstakes. I'm not liking the rental plan.

DEN has no interest in OJ Mayo, source says, so NYK has to go back to the drawing board.

Imagine that. It looks like I got an answer to the question I asked earlier in this thread.

What would make a lot more sense would be for NY to make a trade for Mayo... and just stop there. It sounds like they can gain a net-benefit in this simple trade, and build incrementally for the future.

They can make a pitch to Anthony in the offseason.

I've got to say that I must not be watching the same OJ games that everyone else is because I'm not impressed.

You are watching him under Hollins. A telling fact is he was better as a rookie than he is now.

    FWIW, ESPN Rumors:

    Griz not trading Mayo
    12:09 PM ET

UPDATE No. 2: Denver may or may not be interested in Mayo, but it doesn't since the Grizzlies aren't looking to move him.

According to The Commercial-Appeal, Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said the team has no intention of trading the shooting guard. Wallace also said he has not spoken with New York or Denver about a deal that would send Mayo to the Nuggets.

Mayo has heard the rumors, but he won't let them get to him.

"Every day you look at the gossip and you look on those blogs and there are all kinds of possibilities that could happen in this league," Mayo said. "But most of the time they don't happen. When something gets done it's usually unexpected. ... I'm trying to turn this around and get us a playoff opportunity."

UPDATE: Broussard chimed in via Twitter on Friday, tweeting that "Denver has no interest in Mayo, source says, so Knicks have to go back to the drawing board."

Gary Parrish of CBS Sports adds this to the Mayo fray.

"I was told [Thursday] by somebody in the know that the Grizzlies will move him because they feel they must," he tweeted.

    ---

ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reports the Knicks have approached the Grizzlies about adding shooting guard O.J. Mayo to a deal that would send Carmelo Anthony to New York.

Mayo would head to Denver in such a proposed trade scenario.

The Knicks are still confident that they have a shot at Anthony because New York is his preferred destination.

According to the New York Daily News, Knicks president Donnie Walsh denied talking with the Grizzlies about adding Mayo to the deal.

Reports out of Memphis say the team would like to trade Mayo, so he could be moved by the February deadline, even if it's not part of the Anthony deal.

A source tells the newspaper that they are confident the proposed mega-deal between the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons will be finalized early next week.

A source tells the New York Post that the odds of the trade being finalized by early next week is "very, very good."
