Denver wants more picks. I doubt Memphis would do that. But they have a dumb GM so maybe. Why would Minnesota give up a sure lottery/top 5 pick for Randolph? But it's Kahn so who knows. This seems one-sided for NY.
alanhahn Source familiar with Grizzlies says OJ Mayo is "way, way, way available". Knicks looking to put together formidable package for Denver.
Notice that the article says sources could not confirm whether Denver was speaking to Memphis. This is a classic "media leak" by NY to increase pressure on Denver (so Carmelo can say "I have another option"). Broussard is close to Knicks mgmt, and no one can even confirm Denver is engaged.
alanhahn As for Marc Gasol, I'm told there is zero chance Grizzlies let him go. Plan is to match any offer sheets. Not real option for Knicks.
This just in: memphis reached out to miami about sending dwade to memphis, sources say. They are still waiting to hear back from them. Stay tuned.
Nice story. They talk about the Knicks sending Mayo AND their best assets to Denver for Melo. What the bleep is Memphis getting out of this? Typical New York-centric reporting.
Touche'! But seriously, the Gasol trade was a straight salary dump. Mayo is on a rookie contract. Big difference.
Man, I hope Morey will try to get Mayo; the guy is having an off year but he can shoot the ball, create his own shots and play good defense (and only 22). Memphis don't want to pay him since they already are paying Gay & Conley big money and are fixing to pay a lot to Gasol. May be we send them Lee and Hill?
From everything I've seen in the papers about Marc Gasol, Memphis has no intention of letting Gasol go. They plan on matching any offer for him which is smart. They should. He's a solid NBA center. I heard though that Memphis will not re-sign Big Z. They plan using D. Arthur at the four next year.
Jan 14, 2011 8:09 AM EST The Knicks have reportedly reached out to the Grizzlies to see if they would be willing to include O.J. Mayo in a three-team deal for Carmelo Anthony. A Knicks official told The New York Post that those talks aren't yet serious and that the Nuggets haven't even been brought in. Nevertheless, the beginning of talks gives New York a chance to step in and possibly acquire Anthony should New Jersey not complete a deal with Denver. by New York Post Don't think this trade-idea with Grizzlies is happening at all.
Still comes down to this: NYK have to pray that Melo flatly kills a Nets trade and takes off the best offer on the table but even then NYK have to beat the best rental offers (HOU) for Melo Denver won't give a crap if Melo signs an extension or not. They just want their best possible deal. Dallas' offer has lost huge value with Butler going down. They goofed getting too greedy with the Nets and letting things linger. Morey will trump any Knicks offer, even as a rental.
Not happening. All the stuff about Melo not necessarily agreeing to an extension with the Nets is complete baloney.
